Hedwig's future

I get to town once a year if I'm lucky and I could see this every time. How long do you think Hedwig will run, did you like it enough to see it a few times with different actors. I would expect there would be a long line of people wanting to try this role.

as of now it is expected to close October 12

^^^
That's not true. The run is currently considered opened end. Andrew Rannells is contracted through October 12. Whether they continue is based on ticket sales. We have no idea where the show stands after NPH and Rannells leave.

Hedwig's future

The show is open ended at this point, so there might be a replacement after Rannells leave. I really enjoyed the show when I saw it, and would love to go back to see what Rannells will bring to it. I don't think this is something I would see everytime a new replacement comes in though... But again, I do not often see shows multiple times, I'd rather see different shows. So I guess, for me, it would depend on who is coming in as replacement.
As far as the show's future, I have no idea, but I hope they will have a good long run though, the show really is great!

Hedwig's future

My guess is it will run for at least 3-5 years. It could run much longer.

How is this show regarded for awards if it plays the West End?

Hedwig's future

It might win some.
#9

Hedwig's future

It will all depend on casting.

Hedwig's future

"It might win some." Is it considered an original on the West End? Sorry if I sound absurd.

Has a big production of Hedwig ever been done in the West End?

Hedwig's future

Ethan, it is registered as an open run. Playbill Vault has interns filling in their content. It is not a source of info. No one knows when any show will close but we do know not to rely on Playbill and that the sell to date doesn't mean anything. Playbill.com, incidentally, has it as an open run. But that is not a source either.

Hedwig's future

I think we've adequately captured that no one knows what happens at the Belasco after October 12.
#14

Hedwig's future

I just cannot imagine why they would have gotten Rannells to come in, and for such a short period, if they didn't have a big name in mind for down the road.

Saw this pre tonys and thought wow, thank you NPH, but never thought his performance couldn't be duplicated or exceeded.

Hedwig's future

One imagines Rannells is the canary in the coal mine as far as Hedwig's future post-NPH.

"never thought his performance couldn't be duplicated or exceeded."

This isn't the type of show where you try and just get someone else to repeat the performance, but rather we will get Rannells's take on Hedwig. I doubt he would be doing all of the same NPH banter, moves, etc., but we'll get to see how he defines the role. If they try to just replicate NPH's performance, I'd be far less interested.

Is it possible Rannells is better than Harris?

Hedwig's future

Better is a losing proposition in art. Different is the goal.

Hedwig's future

How would anyone be able to even guess that when Rannells is over a month away from starting performances? It's all subjective anyway.

Hedwig's future

Part of me agrees with you, Scary. Rannells is a well known theater actor who is gaining significant exposure on Girls. I think appearing in Hedwig reminds people of who he is agains TV seasons start. I know he has prior engagements that prevent him from staying long, but could he be the warm up for a big name to come in for the rest of the year? Could be.

A lot of actors want this role right now, theater and mainstream. It's a hot ticket...at the moment. I think we'll know by Labor Day if the show continues or bows out gracefully.

You in the know folks, is there anything original that might be cropping up next year? Musicals?

I just did a spit take with my wine.

"I know he has prior engagements that prevent him from staying long"

Do we know that?

"It's a hot ticket...at the moment."

Yes, through August 17, it is a hot ticket, so Rannells job is to sort out if Hedwig is a hot ticket or NPH is a hot ticket.

Predict Rannells will sell out every night.

"Predict Rannells will sell out every night."

That's a pretty easy thing to predict, but are all the seats full price?
