I was there too. Good day, the cast let loose so it wasn't as intense and dramatic.

munkustrap178 - I half agree with you about the music - the random repetition of a few themes does get wearing, and though there are some beautiful melodies in there, they're frequently marred by awful lyrics from David Zippel.
However, I fail to see how The Woman in White is confusing, it's no more complicated than Les Mis or Ragtime, and all the plot points you mentioned are quite clearly explained on stage. As for people falling in love having only just met - it's kind of a staple of musicals, from West Side Story through to Rent and Light in the Piazza!

I never saw the show, and never read the book before (I have since), yet I understood what was happening just by listening to the OLC CD. It is a show that requires that you PAY ATTENTION rather than just listening to the music. You have to pay attention to what the characters SAY (or sing, in this case) because otherwise you miss important parts of the story. Maybe that's why some people couldn't follow it.
I don't think it would be hard to follow at all if there was a synopsis people could read beforehand. Did they have those in the program?

It's a shame that I never got to see it on Broadway. Hopefully it will tour soon and the touring cast will be just as great as the Broadway cast.
But I'm sure that if I had been there, I would have been crying myself!

so sad it's leaving.. haha...the 2 hours of waiting and freezeing my.. feet... was so worth it! (ya, if u were there i'm the idiot who has sandals on lol)
The cast was SO wonderful! They all came out (duh, lol)...they were all really nice, especially Maria!

Posted: 2/20/06 at 11:19amIt was amazing, the show was amazing, the actors...it was just very emotional, Andrew Lloyd Webber gets better and better each day. But of course people won't go to see anything from him unless it's Phantom or Cats, and somehow that makes me happy. Because he makes money off of those shows to keep producing amazing new shows such as The Woman in White.

I guess you have a good point there, with the Cats and POTO comment. However, i'm a HUGE Phantom Phan and that just made me want to see WIW even more...and the things i'd heard, especailly of Maria and Micheal Ball were great. The story is amazing also, it deserves to be told. Hopefully they'll open it again in like two years after the tour :-, hope the tour goes well.

Posted: 2/20/06 at 11:31ami highly doubt they will re open the show on Broadway. But you never know. I hope it tours with the same cast. Maybe Lisa or Judy as Marian, we have to give some time to the amazing Maria Friedman. I hope she wins the Tony.

The Marquis stagedoor is the "Rod" stagedoor. When I saw La Cage the thursday before it closed, Barrett stopped by to greet Gavin.
Now this time I see John bolt out the door to the side. We catch up to see him and I asked if he was there for Michael and he said yeah.
Can't wait for the next Marquis stagedoor to see yet another random person lol

I saw the last performance too. Infact I flew to NYC just to see the last 3 performances and I didn't regret it. The intire cast has been absolutely stunning and the 3 ladys have been far better then the time I saw them in London.
I especially loved Maria and Angela's performance and I started crying along with Maria when she couldn't end up All For Laura at the last show.
Someone asked what Maria said at the end of the show. I've had front seats and she said: THANKS I LOVE YOU ALL. No kidding.
She's been a sweetheart and everyone else has been as well. So I figure some of you have been waiting at the stage door after the last show. HOw long did Jill and Angela take to get out? Anyone got some decent pic of them? My camera wasn't working and I couldn't stay after the show since my flight back was at 8 pm.
@Almoust Famous. I saw you on Sunday before the show with your friend when you gave Lisa you cake. She surely loved it. Where you the one without the hat or the cloves
I can't believe this show is gone. they didn't deserve it.such a good show...

I did not see the last performance but I did see the Saturday Matinee on the day before - well worth the effort.
Maria gave an excellent performance! As matter of fact EVERYONE did. What an excellent cast.
I had seen this one in London, on a whim, with Michael Ball and found the music to be intoxicating and unforgettable and Maria to be memorable. I must admit that I was not familiar with her at all when I saw her but I have picked up her live CD and "Passion" since seeing her.
Shortly after seeing the show I purchased the CD and continue to play it at least once a week from beginning to end. (This one is hard to play one or two tracks and not the rest.)
I find it interesting that the people who seem to really love this show comment exclusively on the Music and the Performers and not the high-tech staging.
This is the first time I have seen an excellent production that ended up closing early and I must admit that is puzzling to see this happen. I do not now nor have I ever lived in the NYC area so I have not seen very many shows that ended up being flops. ("Merlin" and "Grind" come mind but were both forgettable.)
Thankfully we have the excellent Cd to remeber this one.
Let us all hope that there is a future for this one.

However cheap or trite ALW might be considered by a true theatre fan, the man is a composer of tremendous, epic, and breath-taking melody. Those tunes might recycle, repeat, and reappear within the show and even from show to show, but when the score is as compelling and dare I say ravaging as that of Woman in White, it is WORTH it God damn it.
I recommend purchasing Julian Lloyd Webber's Phantasia that contains The Woman in White orchestral suite. Your appreciation for the score will grow tenfold I believe. Zippel's lyrics? Horrible. The projections? Often lifeless and lacking grandeur. Yes, the design aspects weren't worthy of the Great White Way. But the score is in ALW's top 3, and had this show not come around, I'd not be aware of it and/or totally entranced by it at the moment. I can only pray ALW continues to write and that haters will at least acknowledge his music as always oozing with majestic beauty and prowess, even if it isn't a perfect match for the musical stage.
That will be all :o)

I'm with you, Sayitsomehow. ALW writes wonderful melodies. I found the score compelling, I like Phantasia---and thoroughly enjoyed the show.
I even liked the much maligned projections, which for me, moved the scenes along at a cinematic pace.
In a recent interview, ALW said (paraphrasing here) that he loves writing musicals and loves the theater and just can't stay away.
He'll be back with more beautiful melodies even if too few people appreciate what the does.

Posted: 2/21/06 at 2:55ami am very happy that the melody of Lammistide repeats over and over;i think that makes the show way better. I am missing the show like crazy. I saw it only 2 times.
