In any case, with David Ives writing the book after having done "Dance of the Vampires" (flop) and "Batman" (not going to happen), I'd be reasonably concerned, since everything else has gone down the crapper.
Yes. He is confirmed to write the book for the LITTLE MERMAID.

Kathleen Turner, why didn't I think of that, she DEFINETELY has the low voice
Well before I saw this thread I awlays thought Bette Middler would make a great Ursula, she's really good at playing witches and did once in Hocus Pocus
Kathleen would be a good choice, but I don't think shed take it. I hope that the Little Mermaid does not ever make it to Broadway. It is my least favorite Disney Musical, altHOUgh I am not exactly in love with Tarzan.
I'm still holding out for Marty Testa, though I LOVE ideas of Sara Ramirez and Kathleen Turner (ingenius! superb casting, really).
Don't hold your breath, darlings, Emily is out. She didn't do the last reading-- Liz McCartney did.
And no more Kerry Butler.

Yeah, it would be cool if they could get whoever was the voice of Ursula in movie.
What I want to know is how they're going to pull of the the ending when Ursula grows and Eric impales her with the ship. That ought to be interesting to see.
"You drank a charm to kill John Proctor's wife! You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor!" - Betty Parris to Abigail Williams in Arthur Miller's The Crucible
Original Ursula in the film was the amazing Pat Carroll.
"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."
I'm guessing they might do the tentacles like Audrey 2's roots in Act 2 of LSOH. Dancers inside connected lycra tubes. But knowing Disney, they're capable of commissionning a robot octopus to be built, with just a head hole for the actress. That may ultimately prove cheaper (in more ways than one).
Kathleen Freeman died while Full Monty was still running. Cancer... very, very sad.
I don't know why people keep mentioning Emily though. She is totally out of the running.
I still like the Kathleen Turner idea.

OMG What a GREAT idea thinking of Sara!!! She's blow the roof off of Ursula. As for the "body image" comment, she has beautiful curves and I don't see how that could be hurtful. She's simply beautiful! Did ya see her in the Entertainment Weekly spread? In the pool? Gorge!

I don't understand how they're going to make things work on stage. How are they doing the fins and stuff?
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
Well, the director of Little Mermaid is Francesca Zambello, known most for her opera work. She'll surely do something interesting... here's a shot of her West Side Story, for starters...
As of last count, David Ives IS writing the book. Doug Wright may be officially credited or something for revisions and changes made, but the basic book was written by Ives, whether he's left the project or not. I read the draft a couple weeks ago.
