People who throw the word "racist" around like that totally take away the words true meaning. Nothing anyone said was racist in any way and you know it.
This sounds fake to me. Yes it's a reading, but even then I don't see people like Tammy Blanchard and Megan Hilty agreeing to play Florinda and Lucinda. They barely speak at all.
David Garrison is listed as the "Screenplay Narrator." Not the Narrator/Mysterious Man. And there's no indication that they're using the boy-as-narrator concept for the film.
As for the cast, I could definitely see some of them making it into the final film, but not the leads. I would bet the Witch, Baker, and Baker's Wife will be played by much bigger "movie" names.
Some good choices all around, though!

Toni Collette needs to do the movie version of Next 2 Normal.
Sorry but I have already cast Kate Winslet in that role.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
I would love to see James Corden as the baker. He's certainly made a theatre name for himself, he's downright beloved across the pond, and he's not enough of a name to be downright distracting...
I'm sorry, the biggest problem with some of these movie musicals lately is that they cast based on the name. Talented or not, it takes me out of a movie to see an A-List name. All I can think is, "Hey, there's John Travolta in a fat suit" or "Hey, there's Queen Latifah...again."
"Hey little girls, look at all the men in shiny shirts and no wives!" - Jackie Hoffman, Xanadu, 19 Feb 2008
Well the biggest problem is that there's not this great abundance of actors who can sing well enough to do movie musicals (or at least not a lot who WANT to do them) so the same ones keep getting cast. And that's not going to change until they start dubbing actors, like they done since day 1. Then, like I've said before, we can have people like Sandra Bullock as the Bakers Wife.
This is a surprisingly solid cast even for a reading. I hope some of them stick around for the film, but like everyone has said, there's no way the three leads of the films will be anything but big, Hollywood stars.
I also have a feeling that Zeta-Jones will end up as the Witch and I'm actually not mad about it. She'd be a great fit for that role. A much better fit for her than Desiree.
Sandra Bullock would be an excellent Baker's Wife. I wonder if she'd even go near it though. She doesn't always make the best choices.
