"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
If I recall correctly, though, they tried to keep that a secret and it wasn't until some mistake with merchandise that got released early and allowed people to figure out that it was Mila Kunis's character that became the Witch of the West. They originally wanted the first audiences not to know for sure if it was her or Rachel Weisz's character who transformed.
Notice how all the photos seem to be from Act 1. I'm really hoping for a turn for the worst when we see Act 2 stills. The woods are sinister and the show becomes a drama in act 2, I hope the woods and costumes resemble that.
On a different note, shouldn't the baker and wife look more ragged? They look squeaky clean! (same with Cinderella)... some dirt on those faces or something! I know it's Disney but COME ON!
They just aired it. Of course, they didn't show the full trailer through and the reporters talked through it. But the clips we saw looked great! What we saw were the characters saying "I wish..." and there were clips of each one. I thought everyone looked great!
Entertainment Tonight is syndicated, so it airs at different times on different networks in the various markets.
What I just saw was the same as matttaylorr021. I guess we'll see the full trailer soon enough, the clips in this "glimpse" were certainly enough to whet my appetite.
