I really hope its good. For some unknown reason I am pulling for this show to come back and really deliver something great.
That being said, I will NOT buy another ticket to see it unless the reports are good. I spent way to much money this year on bad theater including Spiderman 1.0...
I'm really looking forward to hearing the reviews. I already bought tix for July. I actually enjoyed the first act of the show before they closed. We'll see.
"The Myth of Arachne," (New Song, replacing Splash Page) "Behold and Wonder," "Bullying by Numbers," "No More," "D.I.Y. World," "Bouncing Off the Walls," "Rise Above," "Pull the Trigger," "Picture This," "A Freak Like Me," (New song, Green Goblin?) "If the World Should End," (In Act One? This seems odd...) "Sinistereo," (Moved Earlier) "Spider-Man!," (Replacing SpiderMan Rising?) "Turn Off the Dark," "I Just Can't Walk Away," "Think Again," "The Boy Falls From the Sky," "I'll Take Manhattan" (Moved) "Finale – A New Dawn." (New Song)
So, at least they definately cut Deeply Furious, and I'm so happy they're keeping Turn Off The Dark. Perhaps they're leaving Arachnae as osmething of a villain and having her team up wih Goblin? Or maybe she's an additional love interest? Or just Madame Webb esque...
The story in the Times about all the changes said that Arachne is now a "guardian angel figure" for Peter Parker instead of a villain.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
Looks like America Olivo (Arachne u/s) has left the cast and Megan Lewis has replaced her. Joey Taranto (from Rock of Ages) has also joined the cast as a swing.
It's a shame that they could not keep the members of the g(r)eek chorus and put them in other roles... even if it was just in the chorus... Such a shame. It's not their fault that some of the original creative team was on an ego trip...
I saw this show over Spring Break and thought it was better than most people said, but not nearly as good as it could have been with the talent they had on stage (Love Jennifer) I wish I could afford to go back and see all the changes. Hopefully they made this show as good as it had the potential to be.
Yeah I saw the Spiderman 1.0 back in December and I absolutely hated it for the most part because of story structure and some of the music....but there were still elements in the show that was just awesome theatre. I'm a little weary that Arachne is still included in the show but hopefully her storline is reined back a bit as the Times said she's a guardian angel now....so we shall see...I'm definitely seeing it again though
Is her name still on the big banner? I looked about a week ago and it still was. I wanted to walk by last night but I was over the crowd in Times Square and cut over to 8th.
Philip Wm. McKinley is billed as "Creative Consultant." Julie Taymor gets "Original Direction by" and is still billed as an author of the book along with Glen Berger and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
I'm no longer seeing it tonight, but when I was dropping my ticket off at the box office this morning noticed two things:
1- for those who are curious, they are still doing their rush; $30, cash only 2- people on line were being interviewed; didn't catch for which publication though
Maybe the new song "Freak Like Me" is Arachne's, as it was a lyric in Deeply Furious. And I'm guessing they moved "I'll Take Manhattan" to the end so that there is more of a Green Goblin focus throughout
