I like how "official" and "likely" are being used in the same sentence.

Had a great run; made a lot of money for all involved; will be great in the non-prof circuit.
Harvey returning is worth a trip. His performance is, unparalleled, one fo teh best in memory.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
FORBIDDEN BROADWAY
HAIRSPRAY?
I am soooooooooooooo upset. If AVENUE Q closes I think I will die.
Many of my favorite shows are closing or recently closed.
XANADU
LEGALLY BLONDE
and now HAIRSPRAY. SUCKS!!!! I hope I can see Hairspray one more time before it closes. Hairspray is such a wonderful show. I am really sad to hear this news. Loved Harvey in the role though.
NEVER SAY BREAK A LEG. EVER.
SAVE GOOD BROADWAY.

I am with you frogs_fan. Interesting how those words are used in the same sentence. I think "likely" is the key word here. I mean, c'mon, they are bringing Harvey back...what a great way to boost the box office and extend if not with him, but possibly with other original cast members or heavy stunt casting. It has been talked about ad nauseum on here, but in this economy, this could be a shrewd move to boost the box office to prevent closure and breathe some life back into this show.

While I am always sorry for those who will need new employment, I think the show has run its course. Nice that Harvey will return.
So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?

This is sad. I never even thought Hairspray might be one of the shows to fold in the coming months.

For once I'm glad Zack Efron might be doing Joseph in London...
I will miss Hairspray a lot! Really sad that it's closing.

Wow, you're not very good at telling rumour from reality, are you EWH? ^_^

No, I know it's a rumor but I would not like to have him be the "final" Link in Hairspray though it would give the show a HUGE boost in sales. Maybe enough to not close.

Is this kind of like a threat to theatergoers? "Buy tickets or we'll close"? That's what it's sounding like..

Well it's a great show that has enjoyed a stellar run. Glad Harvey's coming back to give the show a good sendoff.

Parks, I agree! That is what it sounds like. It could just be a well strategized marketing tool.
