>>Jamie Foxx is in negotiations to star opposite Quvenzhane Wallis in Annie, the update of the classic comic strip-turned-musical that Sony is making with producers Will Smith and Jay-Z.
Foxx would play a character named Benjamin Stacks, a variation of the Daddy Warbucks personage, who takes in the spunky orphan girl being played by Wallis. (You know he’s rich because his name literally means stacks of 100 bills, aka Benjamins.) The Django Unchained star has received an offer from the studio and sources say his team has begun to negotiate.
Will Gluck is directing the project, which has a host of producers: Smith and his Overbrook Entertainment banner partner James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Jay-Z. Also producing are Jay Brown and Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith through Marcy Media.
Gluck recently revised a script by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna.
Sony is eyeing a late fall production start for an anticipated 2014 release.<<
This was always supposed to be a ground-up reimagining, a la The Wiz or Tina Fey's proposed revision of "Bye Bye Birdie" in which Birdie was a pathologically troubled and troublemaking rap superstar who had to be kept on a very short leash by his management team...
Actually, now that I think of it, it seems like Fey took her rejected Birdie idea and built it into Tracy Jordan on 30 Rock.
I'm sorry....Jamie Foxx as Daddy Warbucks or HOWEVER how they renamed him?! How can you go from a NICELY-MADE, TRUE-TO-THE-MUSICAL, OSCAR-WINNING ADAPTION (Les Miserables) to a HORRIBLY, CHEAP, REWRITTEN REMAKE like this? Especially if this is one of the MOST BELOVED musicals of all time?!
Thank whatever that Willow Smith had the brains to quit this!
I understood this thread was going downhill once people began to complain about a change to the source material in a movie we all knew was a re-imagining.

Well, Sketch, things were slightly confused when Martin Charnin gave an interview that implied this was a remake of the original and he was okay with it.
Will Smith and his family just need to go away, a long way away...
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

The world does NOT need yet another Annie movie. An African-American version will not be something new, interesting or enjoyable. After all this time, it seems to be the sloppiest of seconds.
Will Smith should have kept his ears and eyes open for newer projects. (Can you guess what I'm going to suggest....?)
Yup. Matilda the Musical.
You know *someone* is gonna make the movie version. Why does the cast need to be Caucasian?
can we get Fantasia as Lily, Dennis Rodman as Rooster & RuPaul as Miss Hannigan??
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

How do you know this is going to be cheap or.. "horribly"?
LOL casting black Academy Award winning or nominated actors in a re-imaging of a musical! WHO ARE THEY GONNA GET NEXT, TYLER PERRY? Shalanaqua from the weave store? I MEAN OBVIOUSLY BECAUSE THEY WANT TO DESECRATE THE SACRED TEXT THAT IS ANNIE.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
