EVITA is sunset boulevard 2.0, not the regent’s park production (although it uses some of the architecture including some of the choreography).
Rachel is in the best way, a monster. Conceptually, it’s tapping into that dystopic young ambitious obsession of fame and power. Her vocals are the best, ever. She effortlessly navigates the entire score and makes even the extremely high notes enjoyable.
A New Argentina was an incredible show stopper with extremely powerful belt and a thick vibrato that reminds me of only the most powerful diva belters.
If Rachel’s voice can do this every day she will be on Broadway with a Tony Award soon.
There is already a crowd building to watch the second act start from outside. We all know it’s coming.
Jamie Lloyd is sitting behind me I can see him on the aisle reacting to the show it’s very special.

More important;y, is this Evita being done like Sunset having no set - just bleechers, modern dress and the choreo looks very similar to Sunset! What are the design elements?

I know rumors are rumors and everything is based on speculation. Is definitely coming to probably next spring?
People on the UK theater board are raving about this already but that’s only a few so I’m very worried.
I really hope Rachel has a career in musical theater

YAWN no TY! We already saw this so brilliantly and reimagined with Sunset. Not again with Evita??? Jamie's vision the novelty is no longer there and fresh you've been there done that! This is basically the same production that I just read about at the Regent Open Air Theatre '19 with
Gatsby's Samantha Pauly!

lol Seriously? Diego is back in his Joe Gillis briefs from Sunset!
Are they going to record an album and make us wait a year again for the Broadway transfer to open before they release it?
Oh my god, the second act ‘stunt’ if you will is like an amazing, terrible black mirror episode in real life. It’s not just about Eva singing out it’s that the production/fame/celebrity has kind of caught/‘trapped’ people to watch who are in a meta way victims of this fame culture. They even have some of the ensemble sing from the street. Truly trying to blend reality/theatre in a kind of new way.
The audience reaction at the end was absolutely wild.
Everyone was thanking Jamie Lloyd, I told him it was a dream come true.
And not just being Diego spends a bit of the show half naked haha.
Love being one of the few to ever have seen Diego in Sunset and Evita. He did not disappoint. But much like Tom to Nicole, it’s Rachel’s show. I wasn’t really a fan of hers before but my jaw is dropped to the floor. This is a top tier, high calibre effort. It’s like the Audra equivalent of a pop voice.

I honestly wouldn't doubt they do another live album. Also, between Ragtime, Rocky Horror, Chess, and possibly Cats (unless that goes to a different off-Broadway house) I think they may put it off a year so it's not two ALWs in a season, which means 2026-27.
What’s the reason for Che to strip? Is it the same as the previous staging?

Just saw the bows on Facebook. I guess it’s a Jamie Lloyd motif, have your leading man take a curtain call in his underwear and covered in sh*t.

If it is a motif.. I am all for it.

That’s how this production was in 2019 also, years before “Sunset”.

So Sunset is the repeat….
Yes.
How many players in the orchestra for this one? And is it largely the original orchestration?
If CATS is actually coming in next season, I assume EVITA will wait until the year after.

I saw a post on Instagram from someone in the pit and it looks to be a band of 18. I know the cast went into the studio to record pit voices to fill the sound. Would the orchestra do that, too? With this show in particular in its history, even?

He covers himself in blue and white paint. I’m assuming it’s something to do with Argentinian nationalism, or the dangers of nationalism in general.

Don't know, but the orchestra probably would not need to do that: augmentation typically occurs in the string section, which can be "sweetened" with synthesizer programming. SUNSET for example has an 18-piece orchestra with seven strings (4 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 bass), but it sounds richer because of the synth work and sound designer. The last Broadway revival of EVITA had 18 players as well.
