Is there not a thread for this already? Guess no one saw/heard the announcement? I'm excited for her. Seems like a sweet person.
Wow. I just posted the other week that she would be perfect on Broadway. She has a phenomenal voice. I hadn't pegged her as a Roxie, but I can see it. I'll definitely check her out.
^ wasn't that after her performance with Idina that you mentioned that?! Nice
I like Jennifer Nettles' voice-- love Sugarland-- so hopefully she does a great job in Chicago!
Hmmm. I know nothing about her. Maybe she'll be a vacation Roxie? Currently, Amy Spanger is on as Roxie till Dec. 21st, while Bianca is in Manila (until Dec. 21). Perhaps Ms. Nettles will be filling in as a Xmas vacation Roxie while Bianca takes a well deserved rest? I guess the Weisslers are hoping that some country folks take a look at the show. I'm not terribly familiar with Sugarland...sounds country.
She's doing an 8 week engagement. She's not a vacation fill in.

The only things I know about her are (1) she once did an interview stating her dream was to do Broadway, and her dream role was Elphaba, (2) her duet with Menzel was pretty good even if she entered head voice for the high belt.
She has a fantastic voice. Been a fan for years, and now I definitely wanna check her out in this role!
Did not see that coming! Interesting! She's got a powerful voice and I think she'll be able to pull it off.

Patti Fanatic - Jennifer Nettles is a superstar in the Country genre. On a level close to that of Carrie, but not quite if only because she's better known for her work in a duo act known as Sugarland. She is very theatrical and has a fantastic range for a Country vocalist. She'll be great, I'm sure.
I'm very excited for this! I have been a Sugarland fan for as long as I can remember. I think she will sing the **** out of this show!
She's the 2 time Grammy Award winning, 5 time ACM award winning female lead of the country duo "Sugarland." She's very talented that's for sure.
She will definitely sing the s**t out of this role.
I'm very excited for this!
She really does have a great voice. I hope playing Roxie leads to her doing other roles on stage (something more than being the 35th Roxie).
This video and performance is my favorite!

How about Jennifer Nettles in "Annie Get Your Gun" for NBC?
I guess this particular choice is a good one. Now, one hopes that an equally fabulous Velma will be found somewhere. Leigh Zimmerman immediately comes to mind. : )
That is a fantastic idea, ucjrdude902. She'd be perfect for Annie.
This is the first time I've been excited for Chicago in a long while.
Jennifer Nettles is a first class musical storyteller. I fondly remember hearing her sing this when she was still a relatively unknown solo act in Athens, GA!
Story of Your Bones - A personal fave
I'd pay to hear Jennifer Nettles sing Gregorian chants.
Natalie Maines (Dixie Chicks) is really her only competition among current pop singers of any genre.
(No, I'm not a country music fan as a rule, but I love great singing in any genre.)
Here is Nettles singing a big hit of hers ("Stay") that could easily be a show song, dramatic action and all:

She can certainly act when she sings!

She has shown her talent many times as a performer on the Kennedy Center Honors. Great voice.
She's got a strong alto-esque voice, but as others here have already said, her ability to belt high is not that impressive. Chicago will be a fine role for her and will give her a shot at creating a character.
I'd see her in this, but to suggest Wicked is perhaps pushing it a little bit.
