He is shameless.
Oh, this is going to get good.
Difficulty remembering his lines? Does Matthew Broderick have mercury poisoning too?
I ate sushi every day for a month. Large amounts of sushi. I managed to avoid this mysterious mercury poisoning.

What an idiot. Hope he never tries to do Broadway again.

If he can PROVE his illness including test results of high mercury, I think he can sue them.
They're going to having a difficult time getting those private records released.
The fact that he said he was in the hospital for 3 days while the show was running, in which he missed zero performances, is telling enough.
I'm interested in seeing where this is going.
He must have spaced out his hospital visits and only gone on days when there was no show.
Shut up, Jeremy Piven. You're an ass.
Hope he never tries to do Broadway again.
Who would hire him after this?
Oh, for God's sake. You put out a breaking news statement that basically amounts to, "I'm not lying, let me say everything I've already said, with nothing new, YOU SUCK!!"
You could at least try harder, sir.
He specifically said the hospital. Dr's visits are one thing but he specifically said hospital. I can't imagine a hospital letting a patient come and go for something as serious as mercury poisoning.
I've been following this story for the past month and I still don't understand why nobody believes him. I don't know whether or not he was faking it, but I'm at least giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Bobby, I was being sarcastic :)
I don't believe him - if he couldn't complete the run, he should've been smarter and just hide for a while, and not show up everywhere he could looking perfectly healthy.
I've been following this story for the past month
Yeah, and so have the people who think he's full of sh*t. Your point?
Elphaba3,
Yeah, I was angry too, when the statement was first released, and people immediately jumped on Piven. You're right: at least give him the benefit of the doubt.
But after the whole "The disease was life-threatening, I couldn't do it anymore, but I could go to the Golden Globes, and to Bangkok, but NOT A STAGE!", and the fact that his story doesn't hold together very well, doesn't help him at all.

What kind of compensations do the producers owe Mr. Piven? Are the producers required to pay actors when they can no longer perform because of illness?
luvtheEmcee, I only said that so people wouldn't think I just jumped in without reading anything else about it.
BustopherPhantom, I know from personal experience that sitting on an airplane or sitting at a table doesn't take nearly as much energy as performing onstage. I think most people would attest to that. The fact that he looked terrible at the Globes also helps me believe him. He did look sick. Maybe he went to Bangkok to for treatment. Unless people are able to prove that he's full of crap, I personally will give him the benefit of the doubt.
Why wont this man just shut up?
...Plus that statement is ridiculous. It's like a twelve year old trying to fight back on a playground. It's really bitchy and pointless.
E3, he never even mentioned going to Bangkok for treatment. Surely it would have come up by now. You can't have a 3 day Hospital stay w/out missing a performance. He didn't look like **** at the Golden Globes, you must have confused him with being a ****.
I think he looked awful at the Globes. Maybe it was because he was sick from Mercury, maybe it was because he was sick of lying. Maybe he was sick and he exaggerated it. I'll admit that parts of his story do seem fishy (no pun intended). If he is sick, I wish him a full and speedy recovery. If he's lying, karma is a bitch.
He's lying, no doubt about it.
JP's name should be synonymous with douche bag. In fact, does he have an urbandictionary entry yet?
Oh god, he has!
