Maybe so, but in fairness, you'd be surprised how much time away from other things it takes to count $250 million.

He’s filming a bio series about Chuck Barris right now. Da man iz indeed busy, yo. Not being aware of his work schedule doesn’t mean he doesn’t have anything going on. Eva Longoria hasn’t acted in years yet she’s the busiest female director in television. Another example of “whatever happened to…?”

Please God no!!! Can he even act? If they are going off on bizarre celebrity wish-casting tangents for replacements - they should try to get Zac Efron and Zendaya to take over. Now THAT would sell some tickets even if neither one would ever do it…I am surprised that he has never done Broadway although I guess they had to really work to convince him to even do a musical movie again because he was so afraid of typecasting.
I think read that Sutton’s contract is tied to Hugh’s contract - so she leaves when he does.

Lizzo is in a Broadway mood. Can we get her as Roxie or something?

You must be seriously joking with this. He’s appeared in several Oscar winning films including starring opposite Oscar winner Kate Winslet in Woody Allen’s WONDER WHEEL. He’s accomplished an impressive amount of non-musical work beyond his successful music career.

So, if Justin’s not going to do it, does that mean we can still look forward to Ben Platt posting his version of “Ya Got Trouble” on Instagram as Hugh Jackman nears the end of his run?

I don't really care dude, I was just making a joke. The original comment implied his career is going nowhere and I was just pointing out regardless of whether that is true or not, he's done pretty well for himself up to now. It's like when comedians jealous of Seinfeld's success would sit around 5 or 10 years after the show ended and one would try to throw shade by saying "oh yeah, well what's he been doing since then?" Another would just respond "trying to figure out how to spend $900 million."
For the record, I think he's a really talented singer AND actor. Films like Trouble With the Curve, Friends With Benefits, Runner Runner, The Social Network and others showed his abilities as an actor in both comedy and drama. All the hand-wringing in this thread is just comical to me but not unexpected. It doesn't sound like he wants to do it but if he did, I'm sure he would do a fine job with it.

Justin Timberlake is a showman who’s been performing on stage in front of tens of thousands of people for over 20 years. In addition to his film roles, he’s also proven his live comedic acting chops in his several SNL appearances. Combine all that with the fact that he’s an amazing dancer, and there’s every reason to believe that he’d be a good replacement for Hugh, regardless of whether or not it happens.

I remember someone saying that they'd like to see Seth McFarlane do a run as Harold Hill. I'd love to see that before I see Timberlake.

I think they should just close the show after their contracts expire instead of doing more stunt casting. Plus, I think ALW wants the Winter Garden for Cinderella.

I would much prefer Ryan Reynolds to replace. I think he’s give a welcomed new interpretation.
I just can’t see JT in this. At all.
Cheyenne Jackson I’d love to see in this too I just don’t know how big of box office name it would be.
I’m curious If zac efron would be suited. I know actual age wise he’d fit better

He may be busy, but it’s indisputable he’s fallen from his perch of pop cultural ubiquity from a decade ago… particularly as people have started to re-examine his role in the careers of Janet Jackson and Britney Spears.

It’s going to be hard to find another A-lister to fill the role, as it’s been Reno Sweeney’d into an intensely athletic triple threat track. How many stars of Hugh’s caliber can dance like he does? The days when Craig Bierko, Jeff Goldblum and Conan O’Brien can play Harold Hill without breaking a sweat are over, which is probably why Seth MacFarlane hasn’t been clamoring for his shot.

I know he's not a fan favorite, but I can see James Corden taking over.
Timberlake really hasn't been in the spotlight recently. His recent album bombed, but he'd still draw sellouts. Just don't see him suited for Harold Hill. And still not over him ruining Janet Jackson's career due to Nipple-gate.

I thought Derek Hough mentioned he wanted to do Broadway. He might be a good draw. Also, Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Well-put!
This revival has chosen to give equal emphasis to dance to tell its story and to enhance character development. It has also shed a new light on the character of Harold Hill, as someone who may not be able to play music but who can certainly move to music with elegance & athleticism. To the kids in River City, that must have been a greater attraction than the Professor playing music. Kids love movement !
In considering a Best Actor performance in a Musical, is dance and how it is executed given near-equal emphasis in relation to acting & singing? A true triple-threat?

His performance in “Wonder Wheel” is, hands down, the single worst performance I have ever seen in a movie.
I have some firsthand experience regarding work on the film I’m not privy to share, but I have a memory that will stick in my mind forever. Needless to say Woody Allen learned when it was too late that he had cast someone not up to his usual standards.
The sad thing is that Kate Winslet and Jim Belushi give pitch-perfect performances, but when the dramatic stakes hit tragic highs within the script, JT looks utterly blank-faced. It’s offensive to watch.
There’s a scene on the beach, beneath the boardwalk, between Winslet and Timberlake. Watch the editing. You can see how hard they had to work to make Winslet’s quality work convincingly stand alongside JT’s. I bet it was insufferable. It’s almost like she’s performing in a vacuum, but occasionally they have to splice him in.
The movie even broke the rhythm of Woody Allen films releasing in early summer. It took until the winter of that year to come out. I wonder how much editing around JT’s performance played in that.
It’s still worth watching for Kate alone. She finds all the depth and complexity in the character, which is no surprise. But it’s like she and Jim Belushi are acting around someone who won his role in a contest.

Seems an odd comment, not only as Timberlake can dance (with all the comments here asking if he can even act and now this, I wonder if many people on this site actually have any clue who he is), but that, traditionally, it isn't really a dance role. That it was made one for Jackson doesn't mean it will continue to be one with replacements.

I think Corden could be wonderful in it!

Cheyenne Jackson sings pretty and poses prettier, but other than that he is bland on stage. Saw him in Finian's Rainbow and Damn Yankees at Encores!...
Nope! Not right for the dynamic Harold Hill. (Efron is a good suggestion, however.)

Oh, get Eric McCormack to do it again. He was marvelous in the role.
