If this somehow was true, which I highly highly doubt, I can't imagine him doing it for more than 6-8 weeks.
As I just said in the Music Man previews thread:
Cry me a River (City)!

I've said that this production was the sort that could lead to inspired stunt casting in the vein of what Hedwig did a while back.
...but I didn't mean that!
In all seriousness, JT doing live musical theater might be an interesting thing, but it'd have to be a production suited for him. I'm not sure jumping into The Music Man is that.
On a related note, I remember that when Oliver Stone was developing a film adaptation of Memphis , JT was apparently said to be one of his top choices for Dewey Phillips.

JT probably isn’t, but NPH definitely is.

Why? It’s not like he has anything else going on.
I imagine the role was probably offered to him but that Timberlake is smart enough to know that his first ever musical theatre role probably shouldn’t be something as demanding as Harold Hill.

Oh, sweet Jesus. As someone with high profile actor friends, they many times are working on projects that have yet to be announced in the media. Most times, the projects have been finished when they are finally announced. Timberlake is currently filming the Chuck Barris bio series and has other stuff on his agenda as well.

It's a good part for him. He'd be good. But Hugh is a tough act to follow, and I would not be surprised if he says no.
After Hugh, the show might actually be able to pull a Bernadette and do 5 decent months of business with group sales and "traditional theatergoers" who haven't been able to get tix while Hugh is in, if they advertise it correctly. A Norbert Leo Butz or Brian Stokes Mitchell or Alan Cumming type paired with someone like Kate Baldwin.

Btw, I've read somewhere in the past that he is friends with Justin T.
Wasn't he offered Hedwig at some point?
Hugh saying that he's not leaving on November 8 and hasn't solidified an end date feels notable. He will have a press tour this winter/fall for Florian Zeller's THE SON and perhaps has other films in the pipeline, but I have a hard time seeing him stick around more than a year unless he negotiates the production to give him some real flexibility.
Timberlake has been offered many shows. He was offered the revival of A Few Good Men, too. Many actors have been offered many shows and turned them down for a multitude of reasons.
As these recent threads trading in "gossip and rumor" give us an opportunity to learn, "in talks" can mean anything from some intern making an unsolicited call to an agent's office to a lead producer calling a star directly. But we go through the paces as if we did not know this.

Thee was talk on social media (by film people going to Cannes) that THE SON may have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival ( part of the Biennale). The dates of the film fest coincide with his announced break from @MusicManBway in September. Maybe he is going to Venice? It is also within a slightly overlapping period with the Toronto filmfest (where it can qualify as a North American premiere) - could it also be on the agenda? Zeller ( who won an Oscar for screenplay for The Father, also the same film that won a Best Actor Oscar for Hopkins) seemed to have followed a marketing strategy of showing his film at film festivals.

When I interned in a casting office over a decade ago producers wanted him for EVERYTHING and the office had to call his agent and offer the 134th Link Larkin replacement, Prince Eric, a workshop of Ever After, etc etc etc. Literally had to call for every single one to be told he has zero interest. They'd do this with Beyonce, Natalie Portman, Meryl, etc too. The money producers like thinking these people are getable in an easy way and have to be constantly told no.
Accepting the rumors are probably false, If he was going to do it, I actually think it could work. *shrug*
Okay but I support this to be honest.

If Robert Preston had felt that way, the show might not ever have gotten off the ground.
How many more things can this narcissist ruin?
Please, NOOOOOOOOO
Feb. 28 - Looped, Feb. 28 - Next to Normal, March 4 - Hair, March 11 - A Little Night Music, March 24 - Time Stands Still, April 6 - La Cage Aux Folles, April 10 - Anyone Can Whistle (City Center), April 10 - Looped, May 9 - Enron, May 15 - A Little Night Music, May 15 - A Behanding In Spokane, May 30 - A Behanding In Spokane, May 30 - A Little Night Music, June 20 - A Little Night Music, June 23 - Red, June 23 - Sondheim on Sondheim, July 13 - A Little Night Music, July 18 - The Grand Manner (Lincoln Center)
I think his first time on Broadway, if he ever does it, will be a play not a musical. Limited sold out run and all that.
(also bless whatever intern had to setup the meeting to ask Timberlake's people about replacing in Hairspray at the height of his fame lol)

I’m sure he’s on their wishlist, but I don’t see him and Sutton being a match. Maybe she’ll leave whenever Hugh leaves.

Maybe so, but in fairness, you'd be surprised how much time away from other things it takes to count $250 million.
