Sadly, this new musical NEW YORK, NEW YORK is not a musical adaptation of the 1977 Liza Minnelli/Robert De Niro film, so no Francine Evans or Jimmy Doyle. This new musical is inspired by the film’s song “New York, New York” and will use songs featured in the 1977 film but it will be a fully new story and characters. This will flop as bad as STEEL PIER did, which ironically had many of the same creative team. If you’re implying Lea for Francine, there ain’t no Francine in this new show.
Then why are the characters of Jimmy Doyle and Francine Evans listed in the casting breakdown??
Aww, I was hoping Rosie would get a chance to see the show. A few weeks ago she was on Andy Cohen's show saying that she had tickets the weekend Lea got Covid. My eyes got opened to so many Broadway shows after seeing performances on the old Rosie talk show. I think I even heard of Spring Awakening for the first time and saw the OBC perform on there. Or maybe it was Rosie era The View? My math is not quite mathing right now. lol

It may not be a direct adaptation of the film but the lead character remain: Jimmy Doyle and Francine Evans. Where you been boo?

Susan Stroman (The Producers) will direct and choreograph. The musical features a book by David Thompson and Sharon Washington. The score includes new songs as well as well-known standards such as “New York, New York.”
“In 1945, World War II ended. In the years that immediately followed, hundreds of thousands of ex-servicemen and women — myself included — descended on New York City, a tough, gritty, beautiful dream palace, filled with youthful energy and optimism. ‘The sadness is over! This is where I can become the person I was meant to become!’ And this is the New York of our story,” Kander said in the press release.”
Summary of the 1977 film:
Jimmy Doyle (Robert De Niro), an aspiring saxophone player, meets established USO band singer Francine Evans (Liza Minnelli) during V-J Day celebrations at the end of World War II. The two become a musical double act and, more importantly, fall in love. They quickly get married and start a family, however, their volatile relationship disintegrates over time. Years later, when both of them have successful careers, Jimmy and Francine find their paths crossing once again.
I was trying to find more context for this, but what I gather form other places Adele was mentioning wanting to see the show. And apparently girlfriend is looking at Broadway because she is coming for that EGOT! You go, Adele! lol But does anyone know what this interview is? Or heard the whole Lea mention?

Adele just asked her 2 fans if they've seen Lea in FG. Just a casual mention tbh I think Adele fans misunderstood.

I wonder if the show is just going to ride the waves of good word of mouth and great reviews and not get in some more tv performances? Or at least get Lea on another show like The View or Kelly&Ryan for an interview.

Ramin and Lea did a photo shoot last week. Those haven't shown up anywhere yet. I suspect they are arranging as many appearances as possible. Wasn't there something about Lea being on Colbert sometime around now - I think it was the end of October and it's the end of October?

I'm sure they have stuff planned for the next few weeks, but I don't think they need the hard push now. It'll continue selling out over the holidays.

Thank you for this. I am a big fan of Ramin's and this only reinforced my admiration for the man and his talent. Worth the time for anyone, even if there is only a small mention of FG. Just an amazing artist talking about his art and his life.

Agreed! He comes across as very grateful for the work he's getting. What really struck me is how he insinuates he can't really afford to have a choice between being with his family in the UK and working here. Which just gets me more annoyed at the twitter mob wishing for Funny Girl to close. How out of touch do you have to be to wish for people to lose jobs just because you hate a celebrity (Lea) and don't think they should work? If Ramin can't really afford to lose work, then imagine others who have smaller roles and smaller names.

Absolutely.
Another takeaway I got from the interview regarding the show was when he was asked about when he was leaving. He kind of hemmed and hawed, said something about his contract and Lea's contract and I have a feeling however long she stays, she wants him as Nicky. He kind of said he was staying as long as they told him he was staying. :)
Lea is triumphant. Make no mistake. She elevates the show tremendously. I’m a casual fan of hers and this performance solidifies her as a talent to be reckoned with. She is firing on all cylinders. It’s a completely different show. She is a star with the audience in the palm of her hand. She and Ramin generate heat and heartbreak. I was blown away.
Tovah is sublime. She brings a gravity to Rosie that Lynch (who I loved) lacked.
I’m so happy that the cast who has been through the ringer can now breath and relax into a longer run. They’ve got a huge hit on their hands.
