Makes sense. Was just listening to Ramin sing with Barbra at the Hyde Park concert. Bet if he'd been around 50 odd years ago - she would have welcomed more of Nicky in the show. Too bad the music in FG doesn't really allow him to shine.
while quite obviously Lea Michele's vocals are beyond reproach, i think its worth reiterating that Beanie nailed, really nailed, the charm/humor of the book scenes, not to mention the physical comedy. lea doesnt come close in this regard.
i know, i know. people clearly want to hear the score sung as beanie clearly could not, and im not taking away from lea's obvious talent in this regard. but those few jokey lines at the top of this number remind why i enjoyed my beanie experience.

Lea’s concert performance of a song can be quite different from the stage performance. (I usually prefer the latter, even when technically flawed.)
Here are Lea and Beanie side-by-side from the stage. Beanie seems to be conveying her sense that she’s not really a star at all, that it’s all fun and make-believe. It’s charming in its way, but I’m afraid it has little to do with a confidently ambitious Fanny.
FG is a musical ABOUT Fanny, not a performance BY Fanny.

I honestly thought Beanie's acting during the book scenes was almost as bad as her singing. She landed a couple jokes, sure, but that is really the only nice thing I can say about Beanie's performance. I found Lea to be superior in every single way.
"There’s nothing quite like the power and the passion of Broadway music. "

Are you seriously comparing a performance on a talk show to an actual in-show number lol...the performance has obviously been modulated for general audiences
Lea Michele and Ramin Karimloo, the stars of Funny Girl, are the toast of the town and Broadway's most charming on-stage pair. And to think, it almost never happened.
They look very pretty together! Almost as pretty as they sound. "Who Are You Now" is just so gorgeous that I can't even imagine that it wasn't always a duet. I loved that Jonathan quote! I tell ya, if my BFF don't fangirl like Groff fangirls I don't want it! lol

"I have to admit that I do t get the RK appeal. I could not wait for his big Act 2 number to end. Thought it was by far the worst number in the show; and Nicky Arnstein is not exactly a great role. But I guess that is just me.

I'm going to avoid re-watching the film until I get to see the show live again, but maybe I will watch Funny Lady. I really enjoy large parts of that film, and Streisand's costumes are incredible. I stumbled upon a ridiculous web page that only discusses all the furs she wears in the film. It's an entertaining read.

The dress she wears when she’s singing “How Lucky Can You Get” is a phenomenal dress. The deep plunge in the front AND the back is EVERYTHING. Her figure is shown off quite nicely in that particular dress.
”I’ll start with the remarkable return of Lea Michele, whose career lifted off when she starred in “Spring Awakening.” I won’t go over the details of l’affaire“Funny Girl”; there’s no meat left on that bone. What is worth celebrating is the captivating performance Ms. Michele gives in the role of Fanny Brice—heretofore considered almost untouchable ground. Buoyantly, boisterously funny, affecting as needed, and supercharged with that seasoning we call stardust, Ms. Michele turned a solid but magic-free staging into a white-hot ticket.”
If you saw her as the Barbra Streisand-obsessed Rachel Berry on “Glee,” you wouldn’t really question that Lea Michele could sing the role of Fanny Brice in “Funny Girl,” the 1964 Streisand vehicle. She sang it constantly, and well. You might have wondered, though, what else she could do with her fabulous instrument; the role is not a cantata but an emotional slalom that had ended in wipeouts for many before her. When Michele took over the role in the Broadway revival in September, following Beanie Feldstein, she immediately made it clear that she’d learned enough since her Rachel days about the purposes of singing (and the backlashes of life) to give the role surprising dimension. She didn’t just belt, she’d been belted, and let us hear it. JESSE GREEN
I finally saw Lea in Funny Girl and I have to say it's one of the best performances I have ever seen on Broadway. She was really born to play this role. I absolutely loved the show. I think the reviews would have been different for the show if she played Fanny from the beginning. It's definitely must-see.

Agree with this -- saw the show this past Friday and as good as I wanted this to be, it was even better. It felt like one of those "once-in-a-lifetime" sort of deals watching that performance unfold in front of you. I have to say that Tovah was also a big part of that -- she was fantastic. I almost wish they'd give Lea that special "replacement" Tony this year -- it's such a big story and she honestly deserves it.
Does anyone have any information about Ramin? Apparently, he posted a photo of an IV on his IG, then his IG went down. Word is he wasn't in the show last night and won't be performing tonight. Guessing dehydration and exhaustion, but thought someone here might know something. His fandom is concerned.
