The reason might be as simple as Kate has been there longer and has never had a chance to go on in the part. And Kate was going to go on for that matinee before Bailey's first show but Bailey started early, so maybe management felt that they owed her a performance.
Yeah, but, they'd probably drastically cut down on the number of people exchanging tickets if they put Autumn on, because she is familiar to them.
Besides, even if they "owed" Kate a show there is no reason they wouldn't put Autumn on as Margot, at least.
ETA...Bailey wrote on facebook wall that she is very ill and has a virus. She is under doctor's orders not to perform. She said that she is "excited to be back on Saturday night, better than ever."

I know an understudy is going on for the matinee tomorrow for sure, but is it a certainty it'll be Rockwell again?
Clearly it's the most likely situation (considering she's had two shows consecutively,) but was curious if anyone had heard anything solid?
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
My sister has been begging me to take her back to see LB because she wants to see Bailey. But if Bailey isn't going to go on for the matinee then I really hope it's Kate because I would love to see her in the role.

Just to update...Bailey was NOT back tonight. Kate Rockwell was on again. The board at the matinee and evening shows was identical and was as follows:
Elle Woods- Kate Rockwell Emmett Forrest- Barry Anderson Pilar- Tiffany Engen Margot- Emily Padgett Serena- Lindsay Nicole Chambers D.A.- Dani Spieler Aaron- Jody Reynard
Kind of strange to see all three Delta Nus played by understudies. I didn't see either show today, just popped in to see the board.
I wonder if there is an illness going around. Seems odd to have that many people out.
Well according to her facebook Autumn had a migraine this evening, I'm going to take a wild guess and say thats why she didn't go on for elle.
It must have been an interesting performance with all those understudies. I wonder if Jody changed Aaron's last name to something to suit him better.

I saw the show tonight. Was kind of crazy to have that many understudies on. I wish I saw Autumn go on instead of Kate, who I thought I was kind of disappointed with. Autumn escaped the stage door crowd but was standing talking to people at the end of the line where I was standing, but ran away afterward. Maybe it was something personal that happened and she didn't want to face the stage door crowd?
I saw the matinee and was very pleased with Kate's performance. I found her Elle to be "cuter" than LBB's (haven't seen Bailey yet). She came off a bit softer but still great.
In "Omigod, You Guys" there were some cheers when Autumn sang her line and she seemed to be performing to one part of the audience. I was thinking she had family there or something.
I'm surprised that the "car accident" hasn't been discussed here yet. Well, first when Jody drove on stage with Kevin and Cara on the back for the "Legally Blonde Remix" Cara caught her heel and fell flat on her butt as she was getting off. But she didn't miss a beat and I bet the people who had never seen the show before didn't even realize it was a slip up. Her character is a little "tipsy" anyway and the way Cara pulled it off it seemed like a "drunken stumble". But then as Jody drove off stage he was going to quickly and was too close to the edge of the stage. The wheels facing the audience were actually over the edge of the stage. I was so sure the car was going to tip off stage and into the orchestra pit and audience. That would have been a major tragedy with numerous injuries (if not worse). Thankfully, Jody kept the car on the stage but crashed it into the wall. The front wheel was still over the edge of the stage and Jody couldn't pull the car back onto stage. So one ensemble member comes over and then another and another. Kate's still singing her heart out and the number is continuing. Finally it's time for Bryan to make his entrance with the box of flowers. The car's still there and now some stage crew members have come out to try and pull the stuck car back onto stage. Bryan says "Paulette, what's going on here?" Instead of saying "We're just cheering on our friend Elle" Orfeh says "I have no idea!" This got huge applause and laughter and everything stopped. Finally the car was moved off stage and the action continued. Then she turned to Kyle and said "Before that happened we were cheering on our friend Elle". Then Kyle says "I have another package for you" and hands her the box of flowers. She usually only makes a noise in response but this time she said "It's about time" which got more laughter and applause. And the show went on! I've witnessed slip-ups, trips, and tongue twists before but never anything of this magnitude! I feel blessed that I did get to see it. This is part of what makes live theatre so great!

It was certainly a scary few moments. I was sitting in the front row of the mezzanine on the right so I had a perfect view of it all. In those seconds between the wheels leaving the stage and him hitting the wall I just imagined Jody as well as members of the orchestra and audience being pinned under the very real and very heavy golf cart.
Thankfully everything turned out well and Orfeh made it a very funny "accident".

i was just about to come here to talk about teh car! i was sitting front row (student rush seats) and oh my gosh was it scary!!! afterwards when some of the cast was towards the side they were whispering about how scary it was..someone was talking to amber efe about it after i was like at least you handled it really well! she goes 'oh my g-d you dont understand how terrified we were!!!!!"
ok, so now to kate: i really didnt like her as margot last time i saw her, i looooove annaleigh and i feel that she did the best margot so i wasnt expecting much from her for elle..but WOW. as i told her after, she was one of my favorite elles (ive seen 4/6 - becky, lbb, bailey, and her) she captured the warmth and true nice-ness? i dont know any other word! of elle..with lbb everything was very dramatic, and with bailey it seemed kind of forced at times [please dont kill me for those its just my opinion!]..she seemed flattered by my compliment? haha
tiffany as pilar - HILARIOUS. she kind of spoofed on the role and was making fun of herself the whole time - it was awesome
lindsay and emily - they played serena and margot..i was so upset tracy jai was out since shes my fav in the cast, but they both did really really well! i think emily plays a better margot than kate
i had to comment on a few of the understudies sorry this is so long!
oh, and i saw andrew keegan hanging out with dani spieler and kate r. and i wanted to tell him i love his blog but i was too scared! haha
I flew up just to see Bailey in the Matinee yesterday. Of course, huge dissapointment that she was sick, but oh well... The car! I saw him coming and thought he was going way too fast. The lady beside me grabbed my hand and squeezed because she knew it was going to happen too. I was sitting just to the left of the "accident" on row J. Once we saw no one was hurt, it became truly hilarious. I pulled out my camera and got some video of them trying to get it off. I know, I know, that's not legal. I just have them getting the cart and them I turned it off. I've watched it again and gotten a good chuckle. It was very funny, but could have been a terrible accident. Orfeh was great with the recovery. I was watching the cast in the next courtroom scene. They were all picking on Jody something fierce. Ah, live theatre.
