BroadwayBelle2, Autumn understudies the role of Elle Woods, but has not gone on yet. Bailey hasn't missed a performance yet. To my knowledge, Autumn hasn't gone on as Margot yet, either.
Autumn understudies Margot? I didn't know that. Guess it makes sense with B. Curry out, but I don't see her playing a good Margot. Let's just pray that Kate and Tiffany never miss.
Theoretically since Autumn replaced Becky Gulsvig she should cover Elle, Margot, and Serena. However I think that They gave Tiffany Margot and Serena instead
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
For those who haven't had a chance to catch her yet: Asmeret's going on as Brooke again this week Wed thru Sat. I love her Brooke; bummed I can not make *any* of the shows this week.
I saw the show on Sunday night and I could swear Autumn was in Whipped into Shape. Maybe her knee is better? I was very close to the stage, so I'm fairly certain it was her...but I could be wrong.
I saw Matthew as Warner, which I liked. However, I still think he's SOOOOO funny as Carlos. I mean, Jody was funny...but Matthew is just hysterical.
I agree with people that Ven isn't as good as Andy in the Dewey/Kyle role. He's okay, but it just doesn't work for him like it did for Andy.
I like the new Brooke...I thought she was pretty funny.
Orfeh was even funnier this time than when I saw it a few months ago...she really killed me this time. She's always amazing.
I have to say I was very impressed with Bailey. I liked her on the show, until closer to the end. I was very happy with her Legally Blonde. Her emotions were much more authentic than on the show. And people had said they were worried that she'd seem so young next to Christian as Emmett. Yeah, you could tell there was an age difference, but I thought they had great chemistry. Overall I was very happy with it. I took my mom, who'd never seen and really didn't know anything about it, other than what she knows from the movie and she loved it.
I think it's Barry Anderson. I believe Josh Franklin is also covering but I haven't seen the show since Bailey began. Barry has gone on at least 2x so far.
Yes, sorry. The last time I saw the show it was still mostly the original cast, so Nikki was still Brooke. I thought the new one was Nicolette, but off the top of my head I couldn't remember her name...so I just went with new Brooke. :)
Dani Spieler was the judge and the coworker at the salon that does the Lakers girl dance during bend and snap. I liked her.
So embarrassing to make my first post on Legally Blonde, but I've enjoyed the debate. Saw the show last night - I did watch the MTV show (talk about embarrassing) but not a big Bailey fan.
Re understudies - Asmeret was indeed on as Brooke and was really funny, and pulled off the Whipped into Shape number with no problems at all. There were four girls behind me who must have been there just for her -- they cheered and clapped for her throughout, and she grinned at them during the waves, it was cute.
On the other note - I was surprised by Christian Borle, he seemed really engaged by Bailey's Elle. I had read here that he was just walking through the show these days, but I didn't get that at all. I actually thought they had really good chemistry and energy together. He seemed -- charmed by her. It was sweet and gave their relationship some depth.
For Bailey herself? I was really impressed with how she carried the show. She made it seem easy, she was funny and present and her acting was so much stronger than I ever would have guessed from seeing the MTV show. Her voice, of course, is not comparable to either Orfeh or Kate Shindle, but she does just fine, and she hit that last note of Act I like gangbusters.
Plus, somehow the whole thing works. Her Elle definitely seems young and naive compared to the rest of the cast -- but that works for the show, I think. And even the act of Elle herself overcoming expectations sort of resonates with how Bailey performs through the show. I don't know if it will still work once the rest of the original cast move on -- Orfeh and Borle and Richard Blake and Kate Shindle have a presence about them that I think elevates Bailey, and I don't know if it will work without them. But for now, it's interesting to see, and good for Bailey.
P.S. Everytime I looked at Autumn on stage she was doing something interesting. I hope she gets a good role for herself soon.
