Loretta Swit !!!"
What a wonderful suggestion but she wasn't he one Johnny Depp was throwing things at-- unless it was the script for HADESTOWN.

And that happens all the time. My point is that can Hermes, a.male Greek God, be played by a female?"
There is a 75 year old black gay male playing a character from Greek mythology and your concern is they may be replaced by a female and that would be odd? Lololol

I hope Tomás Matos gets cast in more shows. They were a standout in Diana (especially their dancing), and I'm sure anyone who got to see them perform as a Fate got extremely lucky!

Literally nobody said that. Straw Man argument at its finest....

Is anyone else finding it a bit strange that we still haven't heard anything about who the next Hermes is with André De Shields leaving in 2 days. I'm starting to wonder if they'll announce the new Hermes at his final curtain call on Sunday?? With sort of having a moment of "passing the baton" like Jonathan Freeman passing the Jafar staff to the next Jafar, Dennis Stowe.

Or perhaps the Hermes u/s may alternate until a permanent replacement is announced?

I think it makes the Amber Gray theory I mentioned earlier seem even more plausible.

I am loving this trend of more shows going with “in-house” replacements for principal roles… understudies becoming full-timers, for example, or previously departed cast members returning.
I’d like to see T. Oliver Reid take on Hermes for a limited time before Macbeth closes and Gray moves back across the street.

As absolutely, positively, out-of-this-world, INCREDIBLE Amber Gray would be as Hermes, I'm 99.99% sure that rumor is total bull****. I can't say much more, but I really don't think she wants to go back.
I could be proven wrong, stranger things have happened, but I would be flat out shocked to see that happen.

Very possible. A new Worker who joined a couple weeks ago just had their Hermes put-in.

If it was someone exciting who they expect to sell tickets (including Amber), they would’ve announced it already. I feel 90% confident at this point in saying it will be an understudy taking over the role full time. Similar to Lana Gordon taking over Persephone once Amber left, which was also announced fairly last minute iirc.

I’d love to hear Orfeh in this role or norm Lewis. Or lillias white.

No one has been announced, because no one has been hired yet.

With today being the day, no one is hired yet? Can’t be. And maybe I missed this or it’s wishful thinking but what about Chris Sullivan. Isn’t THIS IS US completely done filming? Maybe Chris Sullivan for a limited engagement then a new face? It would be so exciting to see a newcomer take this on. Why they always gotta bring in a name? Especially if a show is doing so well.

We have no idea if they are looking to hire a name or not.

Any getting to see Andre's final show tonight? Has he missed any shows this week?

I’m going tonight, and yes he was out at least once this week.

My guess is that one of the understudies will be bumped up to Hermes full time at least temporarily, but even so I'm surprised we haven't heard anything, with André's last show being in just a couple hours. I mean even when when Lana replaced Amber full-time (and after her Jewelle) it was announced at least a week before I think.

I honestly think something will be announced at curtain call tonight. Maybe someone is in fact hired?? but they want to keep it under wraps until tonight (maybe due to a "big name" status?)

Fair point. Then maybe tonight, or tomorrow?? I would imagine they'll at least announce someone in the cast who will be covering the role for the time being until someone else is hired, or if someone in the cast will be promoted to the new Hermes. Maybe a bit of wishful thinking though.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe the production is actually required to make an announcement if they don’t choose to. And it’s possible that they don’t want to draw further attention to the fact that their Tony Winning star has left the cast, and they might not want to advertise that they’re struggling in the process to book a name to replace him.

I see two possibilities — one is that a “name” fell through at the eleventh hour, and the other is a “name” is coming but not for a few weeks. The show hasn’t relied on celebrity to make it this far, I don’t think they’re in immediate danger because of losing Andre. I imagine the understudy will perform the next couple of weeks and a larger “name” will step in late June.

T. Oliver Reid is fantastic as Hermes. But since he's a swing and their dance captain, I don't see him getting the role permanently.
