Before I started this post, I searched to see if there were any previous posts on this subject on the site, and I didn't see any. I know a lot of people do not like Lin, but a few weeks ago I heard about his 2024 re-imagining of the 1979 movie THE WARRIORS as a musical where the WARRIORS are an all female gang, so I went to Spotify to listen to the album. I've been playing it for weeks and I think it's fantastic. I hope it becomes a Broadway show or a movie.

Thank you. I would never have started the thread if the search for it had come up with that article.
Well, I still think it would make a great Broadway show and it seems it's going to happen.
It is going to happen and it will be incredible 😊
The search function is garbage here so occasionally if I'm looking for an older thread I turn to Google, type in "Broadway world message board" and the subject. It's always worked for me.
Seriously, why can't this board get an adequate search function?

This website is so broken, the search function is like bottom of the list. It has not worked in like 15 years.
Honestly, the only accounts that seem to be able to find what buried threads they're looking for are the AI ones.

Sometimes I wonder if there shouldn't be a migration to a new board on a different platform—better functionality and less disruption from certain people I'm sure we can all think of.

Messageboards are already a thing of the past, there is nowhere to migrate to and building your own will not work. Even Bluesky is having problems getting people to migrate from Twitter and they actually have a reason to...

MANY more people love/admire/like Lin than not. I think there is a very loud minority that complain on him ... but his work is pretty widely embraced and enjoyed. I certainly love most of his stuff.
I know a lot of people do not like Lin
Doubtful since he's universally loved in New York and considered one of the best in our generation of creators. He's also thoughtful, generous loving, kind and works his ass off. Those are things most people respect in the world. The one criticism he receives is about his singing ability regarding his involvement in theater. I remember the insanely wonderful tick tick...BOOM! at City Center in 2014 with him, Karen, and Leslie. The one criticism around here with the grumpy people was he didn't have the vocal ability to sing the score. And he responded to them here, it was glorious. His swagger, confidence, and acting ability made it an event around the city at that time, so it didn't really matter in the end.

I mean, that may all be true, but there are still a decent amount of people who don't like him for whatever reason. He was WAY overexposed for a bit there. I love the guy and I was ready to not hear about him for a while a couple years ago. Some people just don't like things, it's fine

the Hamilton cast recording was also associated with one of the hottest Broadway productions of the 21st century. No one could get a ticket, so they'd listen to the album instead. Warriors didn't get to Hamilton's level, but it had strong reviews and debuted at number 1 on Billboard for Compilation Albums. I wouldn't call that underperforming. I wouldn't be shocked if that album started charting again once the inevitable stage production happens.

It was... a concept album based on an obscure movie from the 70s...
It was very good, but I don't know why you expecting any sort of charting performance at all from it. People didnt flock to an album for Hamilton, they flocked to the show and that pushed the album.
