You may want to check the Liza as Momma Rose thread. Where others agreed with my LIZA AS ROXIE idea.
Liza has played Roxie before. And she wouldn't be the first "older" Roxie in the revival. Chita Rivera played Roxie in her 60s, and most found her AMAZING.
I see no reason why Liza couldn't do it, with some tweaking of choreography ofcourse.
Age isn't an issue with Roxie. Gwen played it at about 50, Ann Reinking played it in her late 20's in 70s, and in her late 40s for the revival. There have been young and old Roxies, and Liza is still talented - so I think she would be great.
Though I would really like to see her as Mama Morton too! Updated On: 10/18/05 at 09:13 PM
Even still, I find it hard to believe that this is the best role she could get. When Liza says she wants to return to Broadway, that's enough right there to launch a major revival or even a new musical written for her, even if it's just a limited run.
But someone please tell me WHY in God's good name would she want to go into a talent-free show like WICKED???
if she really does do it, if I were her, I'd ask for a new song to be written for Morrible to sing. I can't imagine Liza being in a Brodway musical and only getting to sing three lines...
I agree with LJay, I was hoping she'd go back to Broadway but in a role that suits her like Roxie-I was not sure she was able to keep up with the dancing, but others told me they could tweak it for her-or something else. Liza Minnelli is such a big personality that Madame Morrible will fit her too small, and she sings like two notes in the whole show, if they're gonna bring Liza back to Broadway it should be in a role where she can show her great singing abilities. I was probably the only one that said I wasn't sure about Liza playing Momma Rose in the other thread because I'm not a big fan of her "Some People"-I'm a big fan of Liza just not her version of this song-but Momma Rose is a role that's as larger-than-life as Liza herself, Madame Morrible...not so much.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
But I think most of us agree that this just isn't a role for her. It's a terribly written part to begin with, not to mention the songs are just grating. I'm not sure that even Liza is enough to get me to return to this show.
I do agree it is not the role I would like to see her do. But if she does it I will go. I still say there was a missed opportunity by her not joining the company of "42 street" as Dorothy Brock.
Funny, but honestly, it's Liza so she deserves it! But guys, Liza has worked for the best composers ever, and now she is a legend she is gonna go and work with Schwartz and on Wicked! Like I find this show fun and entertaining, but come on!

The fact is that she loves Wicked. She's been there a bunch of times and it's based on the Wizard of Oz, which we all know she has a slight connection with. If she chooses to do the role and it's offered to her, let her do it! Who cares? She'd be great, and it's not a waste of talent. Schwartz is an amazing composer and lyricist and Wicked's a great show. Just because people obsess over it doesn't make it any less great. Sorry, I hope she joins Wicked and is cast in the ensemble to u/s Morrible just to spite you!! lol

I say she will do it. Where else can she get top billing on Broadway for the least amount of work? She can sit and hang around with her old Buddy Ben and maybe they are even eyeing Sam Harris as Boq which would have her hanging out at the theatre all the time anyway, so she might as well go out and say Morribles lines in the usual way and get paid. You wanna hear her sing is the idea, all her concerts will still sell out, But she can just be on Broadway in a non-demanding part and tease, Come on, Who wouldn't do this under such circumstances? Now, Did anyone read that Sam Harris will be doing this yet? If so, Count Liza in! And, They DO look sooooooo cute together don't they...LOL!

You got that right! Just don't go thinking she will fill in when the green girl calls in sick, Wont happen! Although, I would pay more than top dollar to see Liza in Elphaba make up doing "Defying Gravity"! (laughing already!) Hey, I can just hear her new concert songs she will sing from "Wicked" after doing this too, She will have a whole "Wicked" concert addition as well.

My stupid mind didn't even put the connection in with Oz...lol. I would love to see her in the role if for no other reason. They would HAVE to add at least one song for her. I would think more as well. There has to be something bad that they could cut to make room for it.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!
One would think that there was once a reprise of "The Wizard & I" where Morrible would have a bigger part in, When she delivers the Oz envelope to Elphaba under the bridge, Or perhaps there was a "Weather is my Specialty" song on the floor somewhere, I'll bet Steven Schwartz can find one REAL quick! Go ahead, Steal this idea SS, I'll give it to You & Liza, She does deserve ONE big song!

as Jimmarie (sorry if sp) hinted at, Ben Vereen. The two have been seen around a lot lately and she has mentioned how she loves the show. This role is perfect for her, she can ease back into 8 performances etc.. Plus to play a villian in a show that has a connection to your mother's most famous role. Hell I'm there.
But Dicken I would rather see Megan as a summer replacement Glinda (yes shes older, but the camp value alone.
