I was out of town during the run of “Cost of Living,” so I didn’t get to catch it. From what I understand it was considered a fairly surprising win for the Pulitzer, and didn’t generate a ton of enthusiasm. But I’m still excited to have the chance to see it.
Also excited to see “Poor Yella Rednecks” finally get rescheduled; it was scheduled for MTC pre-pandemic, and I was surorised not to see it on the 2021-2022 docket.
The other off-Broadway plays look good too – particularly excited to see the Bengsons involvement with one of them, though I know it won’t actually be one of their own musical pieces.
I assume we’ll see 2 more shows added to the Friedman schedule too. As long as they’re bringing recent Pulitzer-winners back, can we get Hot Wing King? I know, I know, it didn’t premiere at MTC, but neither did Skeleton Crew.
EDIT: now seeing that the press release confirms 2 more shows at the Friedman, and 1 more at City Center

With Between Riverside and Crazy coming in the fall, is it going to be the first time we have 4 Pulitzer winners on Broadway at the same time?
Edit: 5. We also have The Piano Lesson revival. So that's The Piano Lesson, Hamilton, Between Riverside and Crazy, Cost of Living and A Strange Loop.
Did Between Riverside and Crazy already play Bway? I feel like it's been in NYC alot, no?
I absolutely LOVE this play! Exciting news!

I don't know how well I remember Vietgone. I have a vague memory of finding it a little sitcom-y and being underwhelmed by the music but I read the plot synopsis for Poor Yella Rednecks and it does sound interesting.

No. It never played Broadway. I ASSUME/hope it will still be considered a new play and not a revival.
I got a sales call from MTC the other day and the guy said they’d be announcing a major show with “HUGE stars”. I guess we’ll see…
Thanks! I guess my Covid-brain has the timeline all messed up. Did it play several times off-broadway? Either way, happy for it.

Yes, the play was at the Atlantic in summer 2014 and was produced again at Second Stage in January of 2015.

Don't we have 4 right now? Strange Loop, Hamilton, How I Learned To Drive, and Skin of Our Teeth. It'll be neat to have 5 though!

I guess this means the Michael John LaChiusa musical adaptation isn't happening? It would be very odd to bring the play to Broadway and then a musical a season or two later.
Does anyone know the schedule for Cost of Living? Particularly curious if there is a matinee scheduled for September 14 and 21. Thanks
The schedule is up on the Manhattan Theatre Club website, and there are no matinees scheduled on 9/14 or 9/21.
More shows announced, plus Poor Yella Rednecks pushed to next season. By the time it begins performances, it will have been 4.5 years since its NY Premiere at MTC was first announced.

Also note that King James will be playing Off-Broadway, despite speculation that it was planning to open on Broadway. Maybe it was, or maybe it still will eventually. We'll see!
I find it very odd that only two shows have been announced for the Friedman so far, and both are in the fall of 2022 (with The Collaboration probably continuing into early 2023). It looks like there’s an open slot at the Friedman in spring 2023, and yet they’re obviously not planning to put King James in that slot because it doesn’t start previews at Stage I until May. Is there something else they’re still trying to nail down for the last Friedman slot in spring 2023?
Yeah according to the casting notice, The Collaboration ends in like Feb, so I'm sure they are trying to nail something down for that awards slot.

Are Stage 1 tix challenging to come by for non-subscribers? I’d love to see King James but don’t have enough interest in their other shows (or the $) to buy a subscription.
highly recommend KING JAMES

Not usually. I saw Prayer for the French Republic there this past season and several other shows in seasons past and I had no difficulty getting tickets any more than for a show at the Friedman. Many also usually have a rush on TodayTix.
Curious as to when BETWEEN RIVERSIDE announcement of cast and on sale date will happen? Surprised if it is indeed opening Fall 2022 as stated on their website that they haven't put tickets on sale. I wonder if it will go up by the end of November? I really want to see this.

I don't really see this starting previews before Thanksgiving unless they do a REALLY quick load-out/load-in. Kite Runner closes 10/30 at the Helen Hayes. Unless 2nd Stage has flexibility with artist schedules and are hoping Kite Runner will close earlier bc of poor sales.
I hope Stephen McKinley Henderson will be doing it on Bway.

Maybe because it was never an MTC production -- it's Second Stage?

Blurg. It's gone from 2nd stage site. my bad
I’m still seeing it on the Second Stage site
