Now, I'm only the biggest Maddy fan in the world, but is this mere coincidence? "Defying Gravity" ?? Any comments?

I'd wager that she's not desperate enough to need a cross pollination with Wicked's fanbase somehow.
Maybe its a song about her recent boob job...
Here come the 'Madonna as Elphaba' "rumors"....gag.
oh my.
Anything's possible, but I really don't imagine that there's a connection. It just seems a little too random to make sense. I also can't imagine Madonna would cover the song "Defying Gravity." She pretty much knows her vocal limitations and stays within them. (OK, there was that Evita thing...
)
I'd wager it's a rumour, since most Madonna fansites don't mention anything about it, and there has been no word from Madonna's publicist.
I agree with Blue Wizard. I bet you it ISN'T the title.
but gigwise seem so reliable.
I am sooo tempted to say something, but I think of the fury my statement will cause. Ok, I'll say it...Maybe she hasn't even heard of Wicked (GMF runs for cover) LOL
GMF, I commend you for your courage! Actually, I thought the same thing.
Thank you Chris ! Sometimes it's a good thing to be living in another continent, they cannot find me LOL

Considering the publicity Madonna's name carries, I think if she had seen WICKED, we would have heard about it by now.
I know she saw CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG in London, though.
WAYYYYYYY before Madonna...WAAAYYYY before WICKED
there was the off-broadway hit "DeLaGuarda' part rave/part performance art/part circus/interactive show that ran a good 6 years or so at the Daryl Roth Theatre and closed this past september. They used 'defying gravity' as their campaign ad, posters, it was on the backs of t-shirts, etc..
and i'm sure Defying Gravity was used in many other ways prior to them. so,..there really is no connection to anything. I'm sure Madonna has no clue what 'Wicked' is. Although, I must say,..she WAS at DeLaGuarda..AND has hired dancers from DeLaGuarda in her past two tours....maybe one of them was wearing a show shirt during rehearsals.???? and she liked the sound of it.
just wondering i guess. but ultimately,...'defying gravity' doesn't solely belong to Wicked.
mediakilled, good observation. However, the legions of wicked fans may burn you at the stake for suggesting that 'Defying Gravity' as a phrase exsited B.W. (Before Wicked
mediakilled - I saw De La Guarda in London. One of my all-time favorite theatrical experiences. A shame they closed in NYC. I was looking forward to seeing them again.
As for Madonna, she could call her album "Dungpile" and it would go platinum simply because it's Madonna. I hope it's a fun CD. I found American Life to be something of a chore.
American Life was one of the most boring CDs I've ever listened to. It was the first time I've ever regretted getting a Madonna record.
MagicToDo - Thank you for that. I was feeling so alone.

Excruciating is more the word. American Life = Dungpile.
American Life requires more than one listening and is hardly a dungpile. It's actually quite good. Apparently, her new album will be very good--and have a rock edge.
But, I hate getting in the way of some of y'all's favorite activity: Bashing Madonna. I guess it's the little things that give some of you joy.
Not a coincidence in the slightest..you hear the phrase "defying gravity" often.
Hun, if it don't get me on the first listen it's a piece of cr@p. Regardless of who recorded it. Be it Madonna or THE Madonna, okay?

Wow, you must not like a lot of good music, then. Some of the best scores, songs, etc. require multiple listens to hook you in.
I actually liked Madonna's AMERICAN LIFE album more than her MUSIC album. Although MUSIC had catchier hits, the AMERICAN LIFE album feels more unified (a similar situation with TRUE BLUE, where there are so many great tunes, but nothing holding the album together).
I also LOVED the American Life album ! And on the topic, though I jocked before, that maybe she hasn't heard of Wicked, I am sure she has ! She is always on the know of new and popular things and she loves theater. There is no way she hasn't heard of a smash hit like WICKED. Seen it, probably not, but heard about it, no doubt ! Though I don't know if she is familiar with all the songs and Defying Gravity.
