Mariah Carey on Broadway in 2006 for a Christmas show. What's next? The Michael Jackson Free At Last Valentine's Show at the Palace.
every artist has the right to express themselves creatively in any medium they chose too. mariah carey happens to be, regardless what some people think, an extremely talented songwriter. she writes and/or collaborates on almost all of her material.
don't knock her she just may surprise you.
and by the way her latest cd is one of the best of her career. listenable from beginning to end. she's really once again on top her game.
Excuse me but before you knock Carey, let's remember that she is one of the most emulated artists by YOUR favorite Broadway singers. I don't know where Bean and Espinosa, just to name a couple, would get their inspiration without her. It's almost painfully blatant where Bean is concerned. Flame away. Even Ramirez goes there.
What an absolutely excellent point, Al.
Well I can't wait for this. She might not really use it anymore but she's got one hell of a voice on her. I saw her in L.A. a few years ago and can tell you she definately knows how to put on a show.
Aside from the fact that her current cd has sold 2+ million copies within two months, let's not forget that Mariah's debut X-Mas cd was also a best seller!!
**GREAT POINT, Al!**
Thank you, thank you verrr much. Say what you want about my *rants*, this one is absolutely undeniable, if I do say so myself.

It's really sad when Broadway has to offer concerts to fill the theatres. And Lord, you people are sensitive.
There doesn't seem to be a vast amount of dark Broadway houses and this past season has been one of the best seasons I can remember in a long time.
Who's sensitive? Just pointing out the facts. And quite frankly, I'm sick of these screechy singers pretending they don't even know who Mariah Carey is. And how could anything Carey does be any worse than some of the absolute dreck we've seen in recent years?

It's 7:15 AM where I am, I'm still drinking my coffee, but thanks for the advice, which is ironic since YOU started the thread and therefore had to have read the article in the first place and then taken the time to post about it.
romanov's just pissed because he didn't get quite the response he was looking for. he was expecting people to jump on his mariah bashing bandwagon. sorry that didn't happen romanov.
everyone who posted a response was posting facts and no one was being sensitive about it either.
It's not like she's playing a character in a show on Broadway. It's more of a classier concert venue.
I hope it's true because I would love to go see her perform. She happens to be one of my favorite singers.

It seems to me that there's a history of using Broadway theatres for concerts - Judy at the Palace comes to mind.
When Mariah actually SINGS (as in, doesn't do the weird whisper-y breath thing and doesn't simply parade around in skanky clothes) she's amazing. I think there are tons of worse options to come to Broadway. Her Holiday album is cool. I still listen to it come Christmas. I'm not saying I want to take over Elphaba or anything, but this really won't be the end of the world.
and romanov, EVERYONE who posts here probably needs to get out more. (Myself included. Sometimes this feels like an addiction.)

Why not? If there is a market for it, why can't he?

I personally can not wait for Mariah's show. She said in a recent article it will be a Broadway Revue, not a concert and not an actual show. She is writing the book, music and lyrics.
What I love, appreciate and respect about Mariah is that she writes all of her own music and lyrics on every album. She usually collaborates with other composers, but she writes the melodies at least, to every song.
Her new album "The Emancipation of Mimi" is quite simply her best album ever. She belts fully and freely on the entire thing and damn is it good!

I'd also like to add that I haven't seen her dressed as a skank once since her new album has come out. And this woman has been in the news and in the public eye a lot already.
I'm listening to Mariahs new album right now.
You guys have to admit, the woman is a GREAT singer. On her past couple albums she really didn't use her voice. But on this new album, that voice really is back.
I just really think some of you need to give her some credit, because she really some voice.
Mariah also has the number 1 song in the country right now, so I'm happy for her.

"The Emancipation of Mimi" is one of Mariah's best CDs to date. "Butterfly" was my all time favorite up until now but "Emancipation" is eclipsing it. Every track on the CD is a winner.

Mariah has a new fashion consultant, you won't be seeing any more "skanky" outfits.
I love the fact that she's back, better than ever and she's managed to put her "hoochie girl" days behind her. Her voice really is amazing.
Mariah Carey really is a wonderful song writer. She could probably write a pretty terrific Broadway score actually.

I agree. I think she is what Broadway needs right now. Her music is wonderful.
