I hope it's Jane!! I would love to see her as Velma

The casting of Short is brilliant. I'm officially excited now.

Short is a terrific choice, and while I know next to nothing about Hough, Corny is not very important to the show, so even if he's dreadful it doesn't matter all that much.
As for Velma, I really hope they can get Krakowski, though I suppose she might be too busy with Season 3 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Baranksi is fabulous, but I don't think she's right for Velma. She's not the right age and I don't think she could sing it as full out as Velma's songs demand.

Apparently they watched SNL 40 and thought their little bit together screamed future. I thought it screamed forced chemistry.

I really like Martin Short and think it's great casting too.
DH? Great dancer, good singer, but still not a fan. Can't quite put my finger on why though.
Was stoked about Singing in the Rain until I heard the casting. That's one of few instances where if I showed up at the theater and found out his understudy was going on I'd be perfectly fine with it.

As far as I know, Hough will only be in Singin' in the Rain for about 6-8 months I'm guessing. I'm sure Harvey Weinstein will want to keep it open for as long a possible, but Derek said recently in an interview that he is currently writing and choreographing his own musical dance tour/concert which starts touring in late 2017. I'm completely fine with Derek being in Singin' in the Rain after my friend told me he was great in Footloose on the West End, but still do hope somebody like Tony Yazbeck replaces him when he leaves.

Are they going to port over any more talent and creatives from "Grease Live!" for "Hairspray Live", they already managed to wrangle the television director and Julianne Hough's brother...how about Ana Gasteyer for "Velma"? LOL
All kidding aside, the casting of Martin Short as "Wilbur" is beyond brilliant, so much better than that awful Christopher Walken in the film.

Speaking of Maya Rudolph, she'd be a great Velma. Of course, color-blind casting is inappropriate for Hairspray, but I can't help but think show fun she'd be. One can dream.

No, she seems more like a Prudy to me.

I wanted Matthew Morrison as Corny but Derek Hough is a great choice! I can't wait to see him as Corny. Martin Short is also very exciting news! I'm still hoping for Jane Krakowski as Velma and Anna Kendrick as Penny. I know Kendrick is a long shot but I'd still love her in the role!

I would love to see Gasteyer in this, actually- Grease Live repeat notwithstanding.
Krakowski is my top Velma choice, but Gasteyer would be great- and a chance for her to actually show off her fantastic voice on television.
Hough is fine casting. Corny is really a fairly small role.

I'm curious how they'll cast the ensemble/Council Members especially if they will make Hough look a little older or about the same age. A little depends on the Tracy, also, since the Council are supposed to be her classmates. Didn't seem to be a problem for James Marsden in the film either, just by look; not sure how old everyone really was in comparison.

I was actually thinking someone like Billy Crystal for Wilbur, but Martin short should be pretty fantastic. Derek Hough will be fine. He looks good, he can sing and dance. But me also the Jane Krakowski band wagon, think she would be terrific. Also, this may kind of be out of left field, but I could also see Vera Farmiga as Velma. She's a tremondous actress, and for those who saw the episode where she sang "Maybe this time" girl has some pipes. I know that they are getting an unknown for Tracy, but I say get unknowns for all the kid roles, pull either from theater or maybe some secondary characters on Nick shows.

I'd be all for an SNL reunion with Ana Gastayer as Prudy, Cheri Oteri as the gym teacher, and Molly Shannon as the Jail Matron. Or just Jackie Hoffman reprising all 3 roles. Ooooh or maybe Amy Sedaris!
