Moulin Rouge to Close on Broadway

People not being able to hold two things as true at once is so infuriating lol. She both could have been good-intentioned in accepting the role and she didn’t even negotiate a day off. AND she just experienced a life event. Yall can be miserable and pretend that a break up this public wouldn’t deeply affect you, but the fact is she’s human. Does it suck? Yeah. But life also happens.

So many sneers in this thread just to be mean for no reason. Try to think harder.

Moulin Rouge to Close on Broadway

I don't think anyone is being mean for saying that breaking this contract a) hurts the show and b) that it is unprofessional to quit a job over a breakup. Most average every day people do not have that luxury. Her celebrity gives her privilege here. Acknowledging that isn't "mean", it's caused living in reality.

Moulin Rouge to Close on Broadway

Tonight was a surreal experience. She is in no way right for the part but I give her alot of credit for jumping into a show like this that requires her to be on stage quiet a bit. The audience ate up everything she did and her entrance applause was ear shattering.

Certainly a night I won't forgot. Also shame on the merch company for seeing her merch with jacked up prices...$30 for a windowcard????

I'm sure she's getting a cut, and those prices were more in-line with concerts. It's pricey for Broadway, but her fans won't bat an eye!

Also, agreed that she was very fun! Funny, great stage presence, really made it work for her.

Will that bring up the ratings for the Tony Awards?

Moulin Rouge to Close on Broadway

As expected, Aaron Tveit will return to the show one more time, from August 18-29.

Christian Douglas will be the closing night Christian.

Haha, right? As others and I predicted months ago, Aaron is Christian. Again. For the 6th? 7th time? Moulin Rouge to Close on Broadway

Seriously though, he's been involved with this show for nearly a decade, so it's very fitting. I am glad they are closing the show with the current Christian because Christian is fantastic and deserves that honor.

Moulin Rouge to Close on Broadway

I was happy to see the show a few weeks ago for the third and final time. Every time I saw the show, I enjoyed it more and more. Kinda hated it at first, but it really grew on me once I knew what it was. One of the most beautiful designs of a musical ever on Broadway, bravo to Derek McLane, Justin Townsend, Catherine Zuber, Sonya Tayeh, and Alex Timbers on this ravishing and fun show.

Re: Moulin Rouge to Close on Broadway

Very gracious for Aaron to cede the closing performance back to Douglas. Such a gentleman.

As I've seen Aaron multiple times between Boston and Broadway, my final visit to the Rouge will be Aug 13, so see Christian Probst.

I've seen the tour numerous times and plan on seeing the Broadway production for the first time on 8/14.

Re: Moulin Rouge to Close on Broadway

Got my tickets for Aaron's final performance on Saturday night, 8/29 and the final performance on Sunday, 8/30. This is one of my favorite shows. First saw the show in August 2019, a few days after opening, and then again on the reopening night in Sept 2021, when Broadway came back after Covid.

Re: Moulin Rouge to Close on Broadway

Aaron Tveit returned to the musical tonight for his final stint.

For the last two weeks, there will be special post-show surprise performances; this evening, Ricky Rojas brought out his guitar and Sahr Ngaujah was brought up on stage for an encore of “Truth Beauty Freedom Love.”

So Probst didn't get to go on 8/13, Douglas did. He was fine, I think I would've preferred Probst.

The rest of the show, however, is in tremendous shape. Kelsie Watt, who I still don't know much about, was excellent as Satine. Eric Anderson being back to close as Zidler was a dream and I was happy to see him again in the role; Patrick Clanton was on as Toulouse and fit like a glove; Harris was great as always; Rojas is chewing so much scenery he made a hole you can see through to the strip club next door, but it's hysterical to see.

Still can't believe it's closing.

Re: Moulin Rouge to Close on Broadway

I went to see the Broadway production for the first time on Friday evening (8/14). I had seen the touring company numerous times, but nothing could have prepared me for this show on Broadway!! I absolutely loved it! I'm kicking myself for waiting this long to see it as I now want to see it again. Not going to happen as I live in DC.

Andre Ward (Toulouse-Lautrec) was the only one who kind of disappointed me. My favorite Toulouse-Lautrec is Nick Rashad Burroughs. That being said, the entire cast was firing on all cylinders. Kelsie Watts was excellent as Satine.

I saw Nick do it on tour and his was the worst professional performance I’ve ever seen.

Re: Moulin Rouge to Close on Broadway

I stopped by for my final viewing last night and had a fabulous time. The show looks and feels great, going out with life and not a limp.

If you can snag a ticket, I’d go if you can! I will truly miss that stage and lighting design, a feast for the eyes every time.

you would have thought that was the final performance.

Also, anyone know why AK Naderer isn't doing the final week?

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
