I wonder if this closing announcement could spur higher numbers at the box office and they could finish out the year? Maybe announce Aaron Tveit is coming back to close it out?
If not, ATG will have three big theaters to fill this fall, St James, Hirschfeld, and August Wilson
Do you really think Aaron Tveit is going to leave Chess to go to Moulin Rouge? Even if Chesscloses on its scheduled date, that is only a few weeks before MR is scheduled to close."
When did Chess announce they have a scheduled closing date?

After Meg Donnelly's departure, current alternate Arianna Rosario will temporarily assume the role of Satine from March 3-22.

I wonder if they'll have a previous Satine come in to close out the final months of the show after Arianna.

Signs point to Kelsie Watts joining the show in some capacity, either as Satine or her alternate (im guessing the former)

Correct me if I am wrong but I think it is in reference to the last date this block of tickets are on sale. Looks like June 14th.

The show will now close on August 30, after 2,297 regular performances.
Eric Anderson returns as Harold Zidler starting May 19.

As expected. Especially if Paddington isn't starting until Spring.

Someone on Twitter suggested that Aaron may be returning to close the show as his scheduled time off from Chess is August 18th - 30th.

thats his first real break since he started rehearsals in September. he's only had a handful of days off so far. Personally I'd by going and sitting on a beach somewhere but maybe he'll do that for a week, do MR for a week before returning to Chess. It would certainly make his obsessive fangirls happy.
Although if I was a Chess producer and I had just lost my big ticket selling leading lady i don't know if id want my most well known male star going off to do another show for a week and drag the Chess ticket sales down further.

I thought there was no way he would close MR while starring in Chess. Although, I think there's more than a flicker of hope for his fans (both good and crazy) since his vaca days align quite neatly with MR's closing day. We shall see...

Anyone at the matinee care to explain what happened? Patrick Clayton did Zidler for Act 1 and Megan showed up just to do Act 2.

At least there's precedent for a one-day-only appearance of a popular principal for closing night of a long-runner: Donny Osmond did it for BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

I hope we are able to get refunds.. I have tickets for May 17th and don’t particularly have any interest in seeing it again if she isn’t going to be there (and the ticket prices were ridiculous).

The strange thing is, I didn't hear anything about her performance per se. Also never heard what happened about the performance she missed Act One of.

Makes me glad I was forced to sell my ticket for next Sunday when money got tight. She was already scheduled to be off on 5/2, but I think the early departure makes sense since she wouldn’t want to come back for one day to close out the week.
I’m wondering if this sudden public breakup really messed with her head. I don’t know the details, but I feel like something like that would rock anyone out of their rhythm and her leaving is probably her acknowledgment that she isn’t going to be able to perform the way audiences are expecting - and I respect that.

Pathetic. Commit to something or don’t. You can’t let your personal life get in the way of work. Terribly sorry for what she’s going through. She’s not the first person to experience something in her personal life while performing in a Broadway show. Bye.
