is that a general concern that could happen? Did I miss an article ro thread that this could happen?
"
The “article or thread” is the rapid rise in gun violence in this country.
I mean - are you not aware of that…? I….

And you cant just look at the MAGA lot to blame, Rachel has some pretty hardcore/crazed fans and plenty of celebs have been stalked/harmed by 'fans' in the past
In a country where people have easy access to weapons where you dont need to get close to someone to harm them, its a concern.
You have to go through security to get in the theatre, but nothing for just being on the street. Its actually a concern for anyone performing outside like that really."
This! There's a reason why there's security in theaters, concerts and even movie theaters. I think exposing Rachel or anyone to a balcony in the US is just nuts, sorry but it's how I feel. At least for Sunset Boulevard, Tom Francis was surrounded by a lot of guards during his outdoor scene, but in this particular scene Evita all by herself.

That's actually not true - homicides, and shootings, have been declining across the country for the past several years.
That being said, the kind of violence we're talking about here is targeted political violence, and while I'm sure that makes up a tiny percentage of violent crime overall, we live in a highly charged reality where it's obviously a big concern, especially for someone who has been so outspoken (or is perceived to be).
As if often the case, two things can be true: violent crime is way down, but the risk of political violence is actually higher than normal.

I wonder if this closing announcement could spur higher numbers at the box office and they could finish out the year? Maybe announce Aaron Tveit is coming back to close it out?
If not, ATG will have three big theaters to fill this fall, St James, Hirschfeld, and August Wilson
Do you really think Aaron Tveit is going to leave Chess to go to Moulin Rouge? Even if Chess closes on its scheduled date, that is only a few weeks before MR is scheduled to close.

I'd much prefer Danny Burstein to return. He was the heart and soul of this entire production

I would love to see Jessica Goldyn or Robyn Hurder reprise the role of Nini in the last weeks.

I’m talking about the overall increase in gun violence over the last decade or so. Just because the needle has moved downwards over the past couple of years doesn’t mean jack. My point stands. The US has an exorbitantly high rate of violent shootings, whether or not that number has dipped in the immediate past.
Regardless, put a celebrity or public figure (especially a politically outspoken one) on an unsecured platform exposed to the public for ~5 minutes, eight times a week, and you’re playing with fire.

I guess I was unaware that Bway performers were in danger of getting shot while performing. Maybe a bullet proof shield the size of the proscenium should be installed in all theatres? The actors perform behind it! Hey then there would be no need for security and metal detectors

I would assuredly think he would be the best bet to return. I remember him saying he wanted a break after GYPSY, but MARJORIE PRIME came along. With that closing very soon, he can take a nice extended break and then jump back in for the last few weeks of the run if he so chooses.
He truly was the heart and soul of the production.
I could also see Hurder and Ngaujah come back as well. Tam Mutu may already be preparing for TAKE THE LEAD (projected for the fall) by then. No way in hell Tveit leaves CHESS unless they ACTUALLY close in June (which…they won’t).

Plus Tom was constantly moving
In London there was security on the balcony with Rachel. But it wouldn't have been much good if someone did shoot

It would be so much easier for you to just stop commenting on this and let the conversation get back to Moulin Rouge’s closing than continuing to be combative about it. Multiple people have now told you clearly and rationally why it is a higher, more probable risk to stage the Evita/DCFMA scene in New York the same way it was staged in London. You don’t agree with that logic, it’s clear. Maybe it’s a touch overreactive, but are you offended by it in some way that is compelling you to be this dense?
Personally, I think if they’re going to have Evita mounted at the Hirschfeld, that’s the best place for it. It’s just slightly out of the bustle of Times Square and the theatre district, and on a street that’s easier to block off for 10ish minutes and secure however they see fit. Any other theater and you’re dealing with heavier foot traffic and more uncontrollable variables.

Social media is having a ridiculous meltdown over this announcement. I understand being sad, people losing their jobs, but they're acting like someone died. It's insane. They need to chill out and realize Broadway shows close.

I’ve heard that Dolly is going into the Hirshfeld. I saw it last year and it needs a lot of work. I don’t know if they’ve done any work with Dolly being sick recently.

Yeah…the algorithm keeps feeding me all those gonzos in my timeline and it’s actually a little disturbing. A lot of times it’s people who mainly have seen the show a couple times but have that oddly unhealthy attachment to the show and/or performers. It’s reminding me of when Megan left DBH and people already had claws out for Betsy before she even debuted.

I was really hoping it would outrun Kinky Boots. KB is the most overrated show.

I doubt it's going anywhere after Nashville's presentation anytime soon.

I can still see Moulin running for another year honestly if this gives them a boost at the box office. First extension through October, final extension through the Holidays and even beyond. They could still beat Kinky Boots record. I hope whatever comes in is a big new musical. Maybe Burlesque?

So, they should just perform the second act then? I feel like that is the best choice ;)
