Did I miss the announcement that it’s wrapping up 11/27? I thought Hugh had said he’s in it til 1/1/23? Telecharge not selling tix after 11/27.

If it’s true, I wonder if ALW will finally get his dream theatre for Cinderella. I’d be surprised if it was closing, but stranger things have happened.

I guess you missed the memo but ALL shows release tickets in monthly blocks.  Apparently this current block cut off is Nov 27 so next block should be very soon.

The rumor is that Back to the Future has been hovering around the Winter Garden for a late spring/early summer 2023 opening.

I thought Hugh was done in November. I thought the plan all along was to close when he leaves. No?

Correct, and Cinderella will be taking the Imperial for an early spring opening.

Oh look, a bibu!

Well, if the show is set to close 1/1/23 (as I’m fairly certain it had been announced), it makes NO sense to release that final month as it’s own block of tickets. Let alone, it being December when it can be crazy in this town with tourists and scheduling and Rockettes.

Maybe Hugh wants a month off before the Oscar campaigning REALLY takes off?

Shows release tickets for however long the producers want to put them on sale, not in monthly blocks.

I have heard the show will close in January after Hugh’s contract. And I have no doubt prices will be sky high between Thanksgiving and New Years.

That has actually not been announced... anywhere.

The actual final date ever mentioned anywhere for Hugh is Nov 6, 2022.  Tickets being sold thru Nov 27 dismissed that mentioned date.

Oh, yeah! BTTF is SO off my radar and realm of interest, unfortunately, so I neglected to remember that. Was Cinderella also “in talks” or “rumored” as the Palace reopened and the Marquis? (Not trying to shift the convo away from Music Man. lol.)

I'm not sure where you got this idea -- but it's patently false.  Shows can release tickets in whatever time block they want.  It does not need to be in monthly increments.

I knew that I saw January 1, 2023 mentioned on here a while back as coming from Hugh himself, and, after a quick search, that info was posted on July 6 by resident Hugh stan "jo." Maybe they can comment as to where and when Hugh said that.

This cast has been through the ringer. I can understand if they wanted to wrap up before Christmas and get to enjoy the holiday. I think they’ve made their money back already.

Because Broadway actors want to be out of work.  Oy.

I REALLY can't see them leaving SOOOO much money on the table by closing before Christmas. It would just be stupid.

As far as the future of the Winter Garden, I believe Back to the Future is what's currently rumored for it, but that Andrew Lloyd Webber desperately wants it to be able to put in his revolving stage and audience.

Personally, I think The Broadway would be a better fit for Back to the Future, but I also wouldn't give ALW the Winter Garden because a) I don't like him and enjoy when he doesn't get what he wants and b) I don't want him to spend all that time renovating one of the most comfortable, beautiful, and desirable Broadway theatres for what will definitely be a huge flop.

I'm sure it'll have more to do with getting a decent replacement for Jackman then just continuing the show with just a Broadway name.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Back in June, Hugh Jackman was on the Hollywood Reported Awards Chatter Podcast - it was a Tony-centric Roundtable episode with him, Jesse Williams, Sam Rockwell, Ruth Negga, and Mary-Louise Parker - it's actually a fantastic conversation, and well-worth a listen.

But I digress - toward the end of the episode, the moderator asks Jackman "so you'll be in your show through...?" and Jackman responds "January."

Because of the phrasing, it's unclear whether he literally meant THROUGH January (as in, the end of January). He also didn't give any indication of whether he's leaving the show, or if the show is closing. But he did specifically say that he'll be done in January.

Now, it's possible that something has changed, but if so, it must be some significant extenuating circumstance: maybe Jackman's film schedule changed abruptly, and he has to honor it. I don't know, but there's no way the producers are opting to move their closing up of their own accord.

As great as it would do in the Winter Garden, I think it would do even better at the Broadway Theatre. With the large lobbies, they can decorate them just like in London. Giving it that 80's nostalgia!

The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

Yeah. Winter Garden over Broadway is a weird choice. WG is a slightly smaller theatre, but I really don't see less than 200 seats making a difference in how successful this show it. I also don't see Back to the Future really benefiting much from the audience being closer (due to the extreme width of the WG) and I think the futuristic circuit board proscenium buildout would look a lot better at The Broadway. Then you add the Broadway's lobbies and it would seem like a done deal to me if I was a BTTF producer.

Can someone send a memo to let Brody know he doesn’t need to be rude to any and every poster that asks an honest question?
