I would love to see this!
This is the one show I'm most excited about in the upcoming season.
I'm so excited about it!
I renew my Roundabout Theatre subscription every year!
HipTix for me. But Roundabout always has at least one show that I look forward to. This year is no exception, with this topping my list.
natasha richardson.... isn't she related to somefone famous... i forget.. i've seen her in a couple of movies she's really good.
She is the daughter of Academy Award Winner Vanessa Redgrave, niece of Lynn Redgrave and is married to Liam Neeson.
I wish they would confirm the dates of the previews. I have a holiday to book for the love of God.
There was another version at the Circle in the Square theater about 6 or so yrs. ago. I can't remember the actress' name for some reason I think it was Mary Stuart Matherson?
Natashia won the Tony for Cabaret with Alan Cumming,

I'm very excited about this! I thought the Lange/Baldwin version was terrible, but I think that Richardson can pull it off. I doubt that anything can beat the Leigh/Brando movie though.
By the time Lange played in London, Toby Stephens had replaced Alec Baldwin and he was very special. Glenn Close recently played Blanche at the National Theatre in London, a production I didn't see but one that was not well liked.

No, it was not Mary Stuart Masterson. She was never in Streetcar.....
The Circle In The Square production was actually in 1988, four years prior to the Lange/Baldwin revival. Blythe Danner was Blanche, Frances McDormand was Stella and Aidan Quinn was Stanley. Now THAT I would have loved to see.
This is one of my favorite shows of all time. I have hopes that Natasha will be fine in the role. I would have killed to see Jessica Tandy do it in the original, but I loved Vivien Leigh in the film also. Now, if you want to see an awful performance - rent the filmed version with Ann Margaret...OY, Possums!
The Lange/Baldwin version is on film too, and trust me, you're not missing much. I don't care for Lange doing Williams, she wasn't very good in "Cat on A Hot Tin Roof" with Tommy Lee Jones, either. She was entirely too dramatic, even for Williams. I read a review that said it was "impossible to forgot she is acting", and I completely agree. Updated On: 8/31/04 at 04:02 PM
The Circle in the Square production was pretty bad mainly due to Aidan Quinn. He was just too cute and non threatening in the part so that when Blanche compared him to an animal you kept wondering who she was talking about. It was the most boring production of this play I've ever seen.
A friend told me he asked Aidan Quinn why he took the part. Mr. Quinn supposedly said he knew he wrong for the part, but when he was asked to do it, he couldn't say no.

And does Mr Quinn see the fatal flaw in his logic?
The London production with Glenn Close and Essie Davis was not well liked? It was superb - especially Davis. Some critics demurred over the actor - whose name escapes me - who played Stanley, but otherwise it was well received.
I recall reading Essie Davis was extremely well liked as Stella (and she has a few awards to prove it), but was Glenn Close well received?
