The character is a teen ager...how could it be too young?

Additionally....it has more to do look with LOOKING the right age (and being right for the part) then it does BEING the right age.

Wow! They are looking to cast the roles young.
I would love to see Louis Hobson get bumped up to Dan. I think it could work with a younger Diana. That seems like the route they are going. Even 15 seems a bit young for Natalie.

Those ages don't make any sense. Gabe is definitely not 16, in fact he's specifically identified as being almost 18. Natalie is clearly a senior in high school. I guess Henry could be younger. I do like that they're looking for a younger Diana and Dan, though. And I also love the idea of the cast being "any ethnicity!"

Also...a 16 year old Gabe is creepy! They'd have to cut the sexual tension in the There's A World/ I Dreamed a Dance sequence completely, given the age of the actor. Plus, I don't think most 16 year old boys' voices are developed enough to sing I'm Alive regularly. Updated On: 3/14/10 at 03:35 PM

Natalie is NOT a senior....simply by the references to getting out of high school EARLY...she's a jr, at best. Most students turn 18 anytime during their senior year.

The part about Gabe could just be a typo -- but certainly...he can't be that close to the age of Natalie.

I'm glad you like it! . I think she would be fantastic, especially since they are now open to casting all ethnicities.

I don't think I'll show up to the audition. Probably everyone and their mom will be there, and therefore no non-Eqs will be seen. Of course, I'm just assuming that, I have no idea. And I wonder how open they really are to other ethnicities (I am Asian). O well.

I can just foresee Telsey being packed with Equity people since the show is kind of generic to cast. Any and all kinds of actors are going to try out if they think they sort of have a contemporary theatre voice. Not to mention Equity actors putting themselves down as alternates in addition to EMCs... Yeah, I think there will be a lot of people at this audition. They may turn away all non-Eq. But I could be wrong, it could be an abnormally slow audition.

I am Non-Equity and I'm 17 so I'll be going for Natalie! Should I even bother going since I'm not an Equity member? Or should I go and hopefully I'll be seen!?
And in the audition add in Playbill.com ... Do they want a Musial theatre song? Or is it a choice between a contemporary pop/rock song and musical theatre song? Cause I didn't understand that part. 16 or 32 bars? or full song?

So any thoughts? I'm Non-Equity...should I go?

Anyone notice how the Playbill.com audition info has the wrong theater listed? It says the Longacre instead of the Booth. I think this clearly shows that the person who posted the info could very likely be misinformed about the production (referring to the questions about characters' ages).

They're giving you a choice between contemporary rock/pop song or a contemporary musical theatre song. Personally I think you should prepare both and sing the one you prefer first, and if they ask for another one, do the other. 16 bars is more than enough-- don't do any longer than that. DEFINITELY not full song.

And YES, go go go. Go to the audition. The only reasons in the world why someone should "not bother" going to an open call is if the call is being done somewhere far away that you can't get to (like, you live in LA and the call is in NY and you can't get there in time) or if you're dead. Seriously, the whole thought process of "maybe I shouldn't bother because they're probably looking for this-and-that and I'm so-and-so" is death to an actor. Kristin Chenoweth went on a trip to New York when she was barely out of college and went to an open Equity call for "Animal Crackers" (she was not equity) and waited all day until they finally saw her right before the end, and ended up hiring her on the spot. You can't assume anything in this business. If there's an open call coming up and you want to go, go go go. Otherwise you may be talking yourself out of a potential job.

I'm 13 and non-equity, but I swear I can play 16, I have a 17 year old sister who easily looks 17 and people always think that we're twins. Should I go and just ask when I get there if they think they'll have time to see non-equity people?
