I get their strategy, but is it assured that Titanique would be considered a new musical for Tony noms? Could this be deemed a "classic" and go into the best revival category? Does having more or less of the original cast involved make the committee lean one way or another? Just a thought, no hate please.

It will be considered a new musical and the cast won't make a difference, no.

This would definitely qualify as a new musical. A good recent comparison would be Here Lies Love, which wasn’t nominated for Best Musical, but garnered an Original Score nomination.

I was just about to say--this doesn't make much sense from a financial perspective (barring the celebrity casting that keeps getting hinted at) but given that this is a thin year for musicals, it's conceivable people might be willing to throw in some money for the producing credit and possible Tony nom.
Although this transfer is kind of absurd, it's really not that different from what a lot of Broadway productions are, which is a long-term investment. The producers know it won't recoup on Broadway, but by having a 16 week limited engagement right before the Tony Awards, they will get that Broadway "prestige" (as well as an OBC recording) that will make it much more appealing to touring houses as well as regional and educational theaters in terms of licensing it. The producers will lose money in the short term but possibly make money in the long term.

Titanique has a better book than Two Strangers. Who else thinks so?

I’m assuming the entire original cast is transferring, with some rotating celebrity guest stars to join post-opening?"
I can confirm that the entire original cast is NOT transferring. There are a couple wild cards this time around that will turn the needle just a tad bit for some sales."

I'm confused by what you mean when you say "Again." I might be drawing a blank but has Parson's replaced original cast members before when things have transferred?

Just that it isn't a rare occurrence for Jim to be on broadway and doesn't mean huge ticket sales here in a supporting role. But maybe...

Six? I think we only have 5.

For a nom? Absolutely!
Caissie Levy, Ragtime
Kristin Chenoweth, The Queen of Versailles
Lea Michele, Chess
Marla Mindelle, Titanique
Christine Sherrill, Mamma Mia!
Christiane Pitts, Two Strangers
Sara Chase, Schmigadoon!
Shoshana Bean, The Lost Boys
If the actress playing Janet at RHS is also lead, then we have 9 and 5 nominees. If not, it will be four and maybe Marla will miss.
I think Caissie, Lea and Pitts are kinda safe.

That being said, the musicals this year, aside from TWO STRANGERS, nearly all of the musicals and revivals are heavily ensemble-based. I would NOT be shocked to see the Tonys expand the Featured categories to 6 or 7 nominees like in 2024

Unless Lost Boys comes in and surprises, I feel confident in saying this is probably our Best Book winner this year.
Schmigadoon might have done some extensive rewrites but the fast and furious of Titanique is hard to resist. I certainly wouldn't give it to Two Strangers.

Theater owners went with plays and these musicals....and this is the level of Tony awards we are dealing with. Can we just pretend Buena Vista or Just n Time are this season and give it to one of them?

I think it's more than likely she WILL win...for Best Book of a Musical. But actress? I think the nomination will be winning enough.
My wariness of this coming in from a producing perspective aside - which, truly, is none of my business at the end of the day since I’m a guaranteed audience for them - I don’t have any doubts about its Tony prospects. Depending on the rest of the casting, it could easily get nominations for:
And in this, or any other season, it would be worthy of some wins; not just because this is a particularly weak year for musicals.
Actress will likely go to a revival.

Supporting awards as well. Probably direction (Chess?) and Choreo (Cats). Just a total lack of options this season.
