Posted: 1/15/20 at 3:46pmI feel the marquis curse will continue. The article has a brief synopsis of this show and I have to say it doesn’t look like my cup of tea. I’m sure it will get the summer Britney tourists. Hopefully it has a healthy run.

I feel the marquis curse will continue.
Me too. Really wished they put The Lion King there so it could run for all eternity.

Maybe, maybe not. The power of the millennial demographic should not be lightly dismissed, and a key factor in the "Marquis Curse" is the fact that their recent musicals have been based on brands with little appeal to the under 30's (Escape to Margaritaville, Tootsie, etc). & Juliet is doing pretty well over here in London, and the reviews have been better than many expected. OUAOMT very much seems like a US equivalent to that musical (Five of Britney's biggest songs are featured in & Juliet, and Max Martin probably won't mind if the likes of "Baby One More Time" and "Stronger" are in TWO major musicals) and could surprise Britney's detractors...

Have you seen the show? Didn't think so. Give it a fighting chance. Lord.

Posted: 1/15/20 at 4:14pmI’d also say this appeals to a few key demographics: as mentioned above, millennials. But also, gays, and, unless it’s lewd, families. I would say it’s biggest obstacle is it being in such such a huge barn of a theater.

The only issue is that the Minskoff would be empty instead. IMO the Minskoff and the Gershwin are incredibly lucky to have gotten Wicked and Lion King. Pre-those shows, those theatres had the same issues as the Marquis. 'An undesirable barn is a barn until it has a monster hit...then it doesn't matter that it is a barn'.

I guess they have a lot of faith in the show to not give it anytime between to work out any kinks.
I'm def. curious. It sounds fun! I love "& Juliet" so I can see this working.

I really want to know the cast that's attached to this. I think I heard Bonnie Milligan did one of the workshops, and her casting would be the push I'd need to buy a ticket.

I should also say, the power of the older millennial demographic. People who are few years shy of turning forty. I mean, who doesn't know and love legends Tina Turner or Cher, but it's to Britney's songs I danced at 16. Very excited for this production!

Haha. Right? Good points, this theater has a lot of negatives, but with the right show, it could make so much money. Is it this show? Maybe. Only time will tell!

Why? Lol. The Marquis has less seats than the Minskoff, so then we’d just have a “Minskoff” curse? Pish posh.

I am 69 and the most I know about Britney probably centers on her meltdown a decade ago.
I know a lot of Cher songs, Abba songs, Temptation songs, Tina songs, Summer songs, 4 Seasons songs, Carole King songs, etc. Here is my question: does Britney Spears have enough songs that are good enough to anchor a big Broadway show at Broadway prices? I have to admit that I am really surprised, especially since it is apparently not a biographical show where they can insert songs anywhere, but have to fit them at the appropriate moment in the show.
PS -- I was also unfamiliar with the music of the group whose songs were the basis for Head Over Heals. I dont know how much the failure of that show had to do with the songs or

As a huge Britney fan... the speed at which this has developed is a little concerning. It was pushed back two seasons in Chicago, and the turnaround from Chicago closing to New York first previews is 5 weeks, leaving VERY little room for tweaks or even rehearsals n between. I'm hoping for the best, but that's a very aggressive timeline for a show that's already been delayed.

I do agree - the turnaround is a bit concerning, but who knows? Maybe they're THAT confident that it doesn't need major work. Fingers crossed.
