MILLIONS
MAY 10 - JUN 15, 2025
A million dollars is a windfall. A family is a fortune.
Inspired by Frank Cottrell Boyce’s beloved novel and film, MILLIONS is a hilarious and heartwarming new musical about two brothers, their newly-widowed father, a train robber, and (possibly) a miracle.
Damien and Anthony are dealing with the loss of their mother in very different ways. So, when a duffel bag of cash falls out of the sky, Damien thinks it’s a miracle from his mom, sent to test their goodness. But Anthony knows the truth.
Created by a team of Tony Award winners, MILLIONS is an imaginative and unpredictable adventure with a book by Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone, The Prom) and an extraordinary score by Adam Guettel (Floyd Collins, The Light in the Piazza, Days of Wine and Roses), with direction by Bartlett Sher (South Pacific, Fiddler on the Roof, To Kill a Mockingbird).
With soaring music and a story full of surprises, MILLIONS is a modern-day fable that will enchant and entertain the entire family.
This has been in development for years with different producers attached at various points, though currently Sonia Friedman and Jeffrey Richards are the commercial producers behind it. Sonia is also behind Zora Howard & Lileana Blain-Cruz's BUST, which was also announced for Alliance's season as a co-production with the Goodman.

As long as they keep the talking trash can.
Can’t wait to hear this score—I absolutely love the number Audra recorded on the orchestral album.

Bob Martin and Adam Guettel is not a collaboration I would have ever guessed would happen! Very interested in this.

Totally agree. It’s an odd pairing since their shows tend to be so different in style. But I’m excited!
Based on the tone of the movie, this seems like something that could benefit from a more whimsical director than Sher, whose work often feels self-serious. Someone like Jessica Stone or Tina Landau or John Tiffany or Sam Pinkleton or even James Lapine.
The plot description makes it sound like the setting has been switched from Britain to America, which makes sense considering the creative team, though less grounded in history (the film occurs in a fictional world where Britain is transitioning from the Pound to the Euro and everyone needs to exchange their cash).

There's more than one. In 2013 he did a concert at 54 Below, with guests Steven Pasquale and Whitney Bashor. He sang 4 songs from Millions: Find Me, Feel for This, Saint Who, Millions. And There Go I from Days of Wine and Roses. Later the same year in Melbourne, he sang Saint Who, Find Me, Millions and There Go I from DOWAR. I'm sure if you look hard enough, you will find it somewhere or it may resurface.

"St Who" performed at the preview event.
And a handful of demos on Guettel's website.
That overture! Crazy!
Woah! Indeed a crazy overture.
Going by the digital program, looks like Guettel orchestrated the show himself alongside Jamie Lawrence (his DAYS OF WINE & ROSES collaborator) and Billy Jay Stein did the electronic music programming.
The show has a 9 piece orchestra + conductor:
Stunning tracks released, as expected. Guettel is really on a whole different level from everyone else working today.
Love it. Adam is one of the best we have!
Wow, one listen of that Overture and that is a genuinely new and groundbreaking sound for a Broadway musical.
He really is one of the best we have. I can't wait to travel to Atlanta to see Steven and Ruthie sing this score. Tickets are very reasonable and the theater looks gorgeous.
OooooO! This is exciting!
