Assuming (and probably correctly so) that none of the OBC go out on tour, who would you cast in those roles? (If they just did a brief LA run, I could see quite a few of them possibly going over)

I'm glad to hear POTUS is immediately available, and given that The Lehman Trilogy is an adaptation of a book (with a forthcoming TV adaptation) can see why it isn't available to purchase quite yet. Which leaves me wondering why The Minutes isn't available -- future life and not wanting to spoil the surprise? (Which I know is just a click away.) Or further updating? Anyone have a guess?

Just saw the Chicago production of POTUS. The script did not work for me at all. The cast of dramatic actresses couldn't really embrace the slapstick, resulting in some very lackluster chase and combat scenes. They tried to play it as a political satire but the antics of this fictional president are small potatoes compared to what's on the news.

The final scene suggests that

Once the women on his staff stop enabling him the POTUS will make a fool of himself in front of the general public. But what then? The U.S. has already shown that large portions of them will embrace the antics of a fool or the cruelty of a tyrant. What is this play saying beyond "crocs are funny?"

I don't think anyone ever suggested it had anything serious to say - no more than almost an extended SNL skit.  Definitely the Broadway cast elevated the material.  Seeing Rachel Dratch onstage was worth the price of a ticket - and it was a fairly inexpensive ticket for a Broadway show

Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune also was underwhelmed, giving it 2.5 stars in his review.

Arena Stage is finishing a wonderful production of the play today. I actually enjoyed it a lot more than the Broadway production. There was something about seeing this show two miles from the White House. Needless to say the political humor was perfect for the political savvy DC audience.

We had an almost identical reaction as yours after seeing the production that just closed in DC. It didn't really work as pointed satire, nor did it work as broad slapstick.

I would agree that the Broadway cast definitely elevated a thin script. It was fun to watch. I started watching the preview video released for the Chicago production and couldn’t even make it through that.
