Saw it tonight and loved it! An extraordinary ensemble made entirely of WOMEN!!!! And I laughed so hard sometimes I thought i might have piddled.
I don’t want to spoil the plot, but I loved how they never names the POTUS, and loved seeing Julie White (as always) doing fine work with an ensemble at the top of its game. More soon but… for now!
Are shoes on Broadway custom made for the actor or does the costume designer buy them from a store?
I ask because I had never seen crocs with heels before until I watched this play. I googled it and saw they’re sold at Balenciaga/Bergdorf/Bloomingdales for $625! Those are $$$ considering crocs without heels cost less than $25.
Is there a discount code anyone knows about? I'm looking to see this show at the end of April weekend.

Again, there is a discount code linked within post number 29 on this thread.
Thanks, Dan!

My wife and I saw this last night and wanted to added two more raves to the chorus of raves here. What a freaking hysterical night at the theatre. Laughs practically nonstop beginning to end. Such a fun ensemble piece. Highly recommend everyone using that code and purchasing tickets as word of mouth begins to spread. The $55 side orchestra seats in Row N are a steal.

I’m glad this show which by all accounts to us was thrown together is actually a lot of fun!!

Julianne Hough has tested positive for Covid and will be out several days:

This is the reason I've been holding back on buying tickets. I want to see Vanessa Williams, but if she ever has to miss, I doubt I can get a refund because she's not above the title, right? So nervous. (Also still trying to figure out that weird situation with the first two rows on Telecharge...)

What would be better seats in the orch? Row A or Row M? Any advice?
I'm seeing this tonight. I'm not a fan of JH, but was impressed with the positive comments about her performance. My bigger fear is that she won't be the only one, they'll be forced to cancel and I'll miss my opportunity to see this.

Saw this last night, and I'll probably write up a more in depth review later but I agree it's pretty much as good as everyone else has said. We saw Lisa Helmi Johanson go on for Julianne Hough and just wow, you would not be able to tell she was an understudy at all, and I was especially impressed since the show hasn't even been running that long and it's her Broadway debut (there was a cute moment during bows where all the other women were celebrating her), so you'll definitely be in good hands if she's on.
I usually like having a fuller picture of the stage so I'd pick row M over row A, and there are a good nukverof scenes where all 7 people are on stage or people are standing on opposite sides of the stage so if you're in the center in row A there might be a lot of head swiveling. Though if you like being up close and personal then by all means row A shouldn't be bad (not sure how high the stage is). We were side orchestra row L and could see everyone and facial expressions clearly (and also the infamous Crocs)

This is my fear, as well. We fly in on Friday and were planning to rush this on Saturday. If it shuts down over the weekend, our last hail-Mary slot would be next Thursday, otherwise I’ll miss it completely. Hoping it works out for both of us!!

My friend and I have tickets for Saturday. Covid absences / cancellation was my biggest fear buying tickets for a new show, especially this one - the cast was the main draw, including Hough.
We got great seats for $60, which are now listed for over $100! I doubt they would honor our price if they cancel.
Hopefully no one else caught it but… we know how that goes. Fingers crossed for the best!

Echoing this - she was great last night!

Four cast members were out with it during rehearsals, including Rachel Dratch and Julie White, based on this NYTimes article: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/10/theater/broadway-reopening-omicron-covid.html
JH is 5th of 7 to get it, so there are enough swings to cover any of the other tracks if it spreads within the remaining cast … as long as the swings stay healthy. (Stroman could pull a Sam Gold and go on.)
The play itself is very, very funny as long as you don't think too hard about the plot/structure and some of the obvious playwriting tropes. Stroman really knows how to direct screwball comedy and I hope this isn't her last non-musical play. I doubt the play itself will get great reviews, but it was nice to see on Broadway.
Rachel Dratch is the MVP, but almost everyone is doing strong work here. Lisa Helmi Johanson was GREAT in the Julianne Hough part. Hopefully nobody else catches Covid now, because I can't imagine this being worth watching without Dratch, White, and Delaria. Dratch could win Featured Actress considering the competition and recency bias. Beowulf Boritt's turntable set is also impressive and expensive-looking.
The play doesn't need an intermission, and the momentum would be better if this was a one-act.
One random thing: Sometimes directors forget that height and body shape can be fun additions to comedy. This play has that! Dratch looks tiny onstage (Google says she is 5'0 which seems generous) which somehow makes her funnier, and there are a range of heights and body types here. Just a little thing worth noting that probably wasn't even intentional.
Two very mild spoilers:
1) There's an awful finale after the bows involving them singing pop covers, which I hope –– but doubt –– will be cut.
2) The subtitle is...not relevant to the play? The president is "dead" for the majority of act 2. These women are mostly trying to save their own jobs/reputations. But again, don't think too hard about the plot.
I will save the worst for last:
Between this and ANYONE CAN WHISTLE, I think it's fair to say Vanessa Williams is past her prime, unfortunately. She brings nothing interesting here, and I would argue is the least substantial character despite getting the final bow. Maybe she will find more interesting things as the run goes on, but as of right now she's just bland.
Looking forward to seeing this. I'll be getting a rush ticket for tomorrow, April 21st.

Please post what seat you get and how early you lined up! Trying to rush this in a few days and like to know what I can expect (as much as we ever can, lol).

I have tickets for opening matinee (sounds weird to say that!) next Wednesday. Is 10-day quarantine still the norm, or does Equity have different guidelines in play? Wondering if Hough will miss the opening.

Officially, there's no set time in the guidelines. Once they "receive a negative result on a follow-up PCR test or are cleared to return to work by a medical professional" they can return, unless there are production specific terms. Generally around 5-10 days. She could be back in time for press.

I love Vanessa Williams and hope what you say about her isn't true, but I had to give you a thumbs up just for this.

It all depends. Dance shoes and period shoes will most likely be custom made in at least some aspect. For a contemporary piece they could be custom made, or they could be bought off the shelf. It really comes down to the design and the budget.

I love VW too, and was sorry to see her give one awful performance (WHISTLE) and one completely boring and forgettable performance (POTUS) in the span of two months. But maybe she will improve.
