OF COURSE EVERYONE IS GETTING PAYCHECKS. Or at least the people working directly in the theatre are –– we don't know about what agencies and other service providers might be owed. Equity and the other unions would intervene if their members weren't being paid. The production is bonded with AEA for this very reason.

A cashflow problem means some sucker of an investor is covering the losses, because obviously the weekly grosses aren't covering the running costs and any (small) contingency was burned through long ago. There will be additional "closing costs" involved. But this show is a giant money hole, as many of us have been saying since the moment it started previews, and no investor will ever see a dime back from it.

I don't see why there would be any concern by Shubert of Garth suing them, but please elaborate...

Apparently some pretty big names were approached and interested initially, but Sondheim really wanted Katrina (who I think is brilliant in the role btw).
"

Heather Headley and Cassie Levy were the others of the final 3 they were looking at for Bobbie. This came after Anne Hathaway passed due to being pregnant and Laura Benanti passed following her not-so-great experience with My Fair Lady.

I would guess Patti is the most likely to go. She's been with the show for 4 years counting London. She has two replaced hips and a new shoulder. She's been very candid about how rough musicals are on her body and lets not forget she swore them off before Marianne approached her post-War Paint. She's also due to start filming a couple projects that have been in the pipeline.
"

Wait, what happened with Laura in MFL?
"

Would love to know this tea as well. Also, Cassie as Bobby would have been everything.

Sure, she'd sing the heck out of it, but I'm not convinced her journey would have been particularly remarkable. Patina Miller would have been a MUCH more inspired choice I think, but she wasn't considered. Though, her presenting their performance on Sunday made me wonder if she perhaps could make the jump to Company post-ITWs.

Re: Laura, she was pretty outright about how it limited her time with her young daughter, and health reasons kept her from stage dooring, etc. Not to do with how she was treated during that show, just the circumstances in her life around it. She also announced her second pregnancy in December 2019 when Company was in rehearsals, so many factors played into it.

Gotcha. And I agree. Lenk has a very downtown cool vibe to her that I can see why she got cast. She IS that kind of single, cool, chic New Yorker vibe. So I get that. I hope the show stays around longer cause I'd love to see how she's grown in the show.

Laura Benanti never announced a second pregnancy, nor has she ever had a second child.

I think Caissie really showed depth as an actress in Caroline. I honestly felt she should've gotten a Tony nom. Anyway, Heather would've been my pick, but I love Katrina's performance.

I had previously thought of Patina as a Bobby replacement, I think she’d be fabulous. Caissie I’d also have loved to see, I think she’s very underrated.

I thought she was fantastic in the First Lady Suite at the Public as well.

I think Heater is far too old, no? And she's got such a regal presence, which works for The Witch, but not sure that's the vibe they wanted for Bobbie.

Looked into this further, and we're both correct kind of. She suffered a miscarriage in late 2019, so she was indeed pregnant during the time of rehearsals starting. Her daughter not being born by the time she was in MFL is where I got my timeline screwed up.

It's also been losing money week after week. I love the show, but it's flopping hard at the box office.
"

Has a limited run ever announced an earlier closing date than what they originally scheduled?
"

Yes!

"The Broadway revival of for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf by Ntozake Shange ended at the Booth Theatre June 5. The show was originally set to close August 14, but moved up its closing date. Previews for the show began April 1, followed by opening April 20."

Heather Headley is the exact same age as Katrina Lenk. 47.

That article was updated in 2020 but it was an article from 2016. I know this because Ella was born in Feb of 2017 and she suffered a miscarriage in the Summer of 2015. So no, you are just completely wrong.

I can admit when I'm wrong. I was going off the date in the article. So put a gold star in your column!

The fact remains that she turned down Company because her work/life balance during the time of MFL took a toll and she, in fact, did not originate Bobbie on Broadway. So, anyway...

All Mr. Drabinksy cares about is getting his weekly fees covered and his 5 star hotel paid for

The problem with people getting “paychecks” is that Garth has basically fulfilled the contract except one part… Benefits. He has not paid any actors or crew benefits since March.

The challenge here is that he is doing the paycheck and leaving the benefits to arbitration. In arbitration he will lose ultimately, however at that tome there will be no money to get.

His personal fees are outrageous on this show

Not sure if I'm included in "you loves" since mine was the quoted post, but I don't say it with any certainty. I personally wouldn't go so far as to say it "won't go anywhere for a while" - by "for now" I basically meant through the summer at least, which isn't a particularly high bar.

While I don't know Company's running cost (feel free to enlighten me if you do know), I've been speculating in recent weeks that they're JUST barely making their running cost, or making just under it. Meaning if they can get a Tony/summer boost of, say, $75k - $100k/week, it could allow them to keep chugging along in the short term. The margins would be too small to hope for recoupment, but large enough that they'd have no incentive to close the show right away.

Of course, whether it actually WILL get that boost is a different question, which is maybe the source of your very condescending, and not-very-helpful remark.

I don't think the Best Revival award on its own would be enough, but with 4 televised awards + a performance, I don't think it's out of the question that its visibility would be sufficient to get a modest, but noticeable boost at the box office. But again, I don't say it with utter certainty - just a prediction that will be either confirmed or debunked in the coming weeks.

I really like what Katrina does with Bobbie (and I have liked it from the beginning, was completely bewildered by the reaction to her), but i actually think Caissie Levy would bring a neuroses/sweetness to the role that Katrina does not. I dont know if it would be better but damn I'd love to see it. (And I agree with whoever said above that her work in Caroline was severely underrated and overlooked).
