She opened her blog post with, "This will either make me incredibly popular with the theatre community or incredibly unpopular..."
It's not about creating a dialogue.
she hasn't even responded at all to my later tweets. you're right, she doesn't want to discuss anything. or she's just tired from her busy and emotional day.

The thing is it isn't going to make her either of those things.
I was so shocked at how nasty and outright abusive some posters were when I first started using this chat room -- remarks that were directly in violation of BWW's explicitly stated rules -- that I reported the abuse to the BWW "administrator." Nothing happened. I never heard back. Nothing was removed.
So I am delighted that Patti Murin's post has spurred a little self-reflection here, and speeded up the "report abuse" button on BWW, which is maybe a dozen years late, but still appreciated.
Having said all that, I'll add that I agree completely with what WhizzerMarvin has said about this latest kerfuffle. There is much conversation on these chats that I find worthwhile and interesting. Everything I've ever read on this chat board by WhizzerMarvin, for example, has been informative, thoughtful, fair.
Hopefully once the shock of her show getting cancelled wears off, this will all die down and she'll realize how silly this whole thing is. I do agree that snark and nastiness with no proof or anything to back it up is uncalled for. But, also taking mean "sounding" messages out of context to complain and be bitter is as well. Sometimes it is better to just let things go.

She's not really talking to you at all."
Yeah, I was thinking about this... Are you actually getting notifications from the tweets or is she just doing her trademark "I'm gonna talk about you behind your back and if you don't see it, that's your problem"? (After this, I now consider that her trademark action, rather than anything related to theatre. Congrats, Patti, who's not reading this since she doesn't read these boards, wink wink. You did this to yourself.)

You know what one of the things in the guidelines of this board is NYTheater? No spamming or driving traffic to your own or other sites.
Like you, I too am glad they're going to be tightening up the ship around here even though I probably won't ever think to go looking for one of your scintillating quizzes ever again.

I don't like lite snark. It has no calories and no flavour. Full Frontal snark 4evah!
Has anyone brought up yet that Actor_Friend himself made a jab about Nerds "not making it 'till June" at BroadwayCon? I enjoy his snark but am also side-eyedly (it's an adverb I just made up because English is an evolving language) entertained by his hashtag campaign.

It's not about creating a dialogue."
It's venting for a very particular psychological need due to a very recent theatrical tragedy using cherry-picked evidence. That is all. It's so unfortunate that other performers parrot without reading. I lost any potential respect for Patti Murin I might have had if she gets on another show, but I've also lost some respect for those who parrot without knowing anything about this board either. But in the end, she still loses, so I'll take solace from that.

If only that was caught on video...

I received to notifications but hadn't heard anything for awhile. but I just received one saying she has followed me back. I hope I come out alive.
Just a question. And forgive me if it has been discussed here before. Why does it take someone that I had to google ( and please believe me..no diss meant for Patti Murin.. more to BWW) to complain about the boards.. for a "abuse" thing to be addressed? I have read tons and tons of posters complain about this and that and while things might get deleted ;nothing has ever been officially adressed to this extent. Just curious..
I always felt this board was a little to kiss ass ( forgive the snark.. now I have to watch everything I say) to the sudo made up broadway celebrity ; and not as willing to bat for the fans..

Well, like someone said before, you can't possibly represent the whole board. But point her to Kad's post as a reminder that she's insulted way more people than she thinks.

His self-righteous crusading is usually at odds with the bitchy persona he peddles.

I'd like to thank all the little people, and by that I mean the non-creators.

Besides, she's getting showered with admiration for this. She has no incentive to change anything, especially now that the damage is done and her potential fans have been sufficiently alienated.
She'll be hailed for taking on "cyber bullying", this era's cause du jour, by people uneducated enough to think she's actually taking on cyber bullying. At this point, she really has nothing to lose by continuing and plenty of support to lose if she doesn't.
Curtis is cute too and I thought he was gay as well. LOL
I just came up with a good idea, but it's probably rude and snarky.
We should bring the board to Jimmy Kimmel's attention so instead of him doing a Celebrities Read Mean Tweets, he can do Celebrities Read Mean Broadway World Messages.
I don't follow these people on twitter.. but I am a fan of their work. Maybe that is why I assume all these guys are gay.. what does that say about me?

Kad said: "I actually went back and read the blog- I skimmed it before because, lord, the last thing I need to read is another outraged essay on the Internet- and it's really amazing how she paints this board with such a broadly negative brush. Like it's 4chan or something.
But for these boards to exist on a website like BWW, one that is all about the joy and love and passion and artistry of theatre, is a direct contradiction of everything they stand for. They love and support actors and directors and creators and designers and dressers and box office staff and ushers and the awesome people who stand in Times Square when it’s 20 degrees outside passing out flyers for shows. So I want to know why they would willingly cultivate a cesspool of ignorance and negativity?
Patti, girl: who do you think the members here are?
They're the ones who sit on rush lines and crowd at lotteries. They're the ones who performed in school shows. Many of them work for theatres, maybe ones you have worked for, too. Or they work for your unions, as your house staff, or in your box offices. They're the ones who wait with bated breath to hear about a new show in previews. They're the ones who are excited that a show like She Lives Me is revived. They have seen all the great divas, all the Golden Age shows. They're the ones who trek to New York from Missouri or California or overseas. They know all the lyrics. They know who the understudies and swings are. And, girl, they know who you are.
