What performers do you admire but "don't get" the big deal made over them? My short list would be:
Ruthie Henshall
Elaine Paige
and Nathan Lane
Oh! I totally get all the people you've listed.
Don't mean to jump on you for your opinion but I have loved each of these performers in something or another.
Still trying to think of someone who is fussed over that I don't get. I'll report asap. :)
Barbara Streisand immediately comes to mind.

Re: Ruthie Henshall. I think she has a good voice. I think she's a good actress. I think she's been good in the shows I've seen her in but for me it ends there. I have never been blown away by her like others have.
Oh come on! She (Babs) was phenomenal when she burst onto the scene!
She paved the way for the Idinas.
Ruthie is an incredible dancer too. Fantastic legs.

I never use to "get" Barbra Streisand either. That is until I saw Funny Girl, Yentl, and Hello Dolly. And now I love her. For what she WAS...not what she has become.
Hugh Jackman
i definitely second hugh jackman.
i think carol channing would be mine, her voice makes me want to rip my ears off.
Is today April 1?
ethel merman
You've got to hand it to her for doing all of those musicals (and many more performances) without any kind of amplification! Think!!!!!
thank you! that was the other one i was gonna say (ethel), again, makes me want to rip my ears off

Nathan Lane? Oh dear God you're making me sob...
It's okay, I understand we all have different tastes.
I agree with Carol Channing - she seems like a wonderful woman but her voice just... gets to me...

Glebb- so she's loud and has been in alot of shows- doesn't make her any more melodic
Ok, I think this adult needs to go smoke (even though I don't smoke!).

hugh jackman
Count me in as another who is mystified over the hysteria engendered by Hugh Jackman.
Sutton Foster. Seems like a nice gal, but she does zilch for me.
Max von Essen. Same as for Sutton Foster.
Oh, I'm definitely going with Ethel Merman and Carol Channing also.
actually yeah carol channing, i dont get here.
got to love ruthie though!
Carol Channing and Elaine Strich.
Greg Edleman. (I can't even spell his name correctly; every time I learn it, it evaporates.) He sings pleasantly, and I tried to embrace his performance in WONDERFUL TOWN, but for my orchestra seat price, plus the 1.25 theatre preservation fee, he's just the dullest leading man on broadway, one who is always there to give a workmanlike, stock-worthy performance and little more--and sometimes less. I don't see chemistry, or on-stage connections. He put me to sleep in INTO THE WOODS and 1776. He's apparently adored by other actors, (and a couple of director pals of mine) so what do I know? Is he star-worthy? I just ... don't get him.
Elaine Strich
Elaine Paige
Barbara Cook
Just don't get 'em.
