adamgreer, that is a very strange article. I follow Ali Ewoldt (the current Christine) on social media and there hasn't been the slightest hint from her (or anyone else in the show) that her run is ending anytime soon. The only role currently up for grabs is the Phantom, when Mr. Joback leaves.

Does anyone know the situation with the understudy for Christine? Elizabeth Welch (Princess/Mirror Bride) posted about the 30th yesterday, but also yesterday Katie Travis (who used to be Christine on the tour) posted that she would be the mirror bride for the next few weeks. Is Kaley or Ali sick so Elizabeth is the alternate now? Neither Katie nor Elizabeth are listed on Playbill Vault but Elizabeth is on the website.
A hint from Ron Bohmer, her husband. His Book of Mormon costars don't even seem to know what's up.

What the....? Did something happen to Ms. Ewoldt? This is all so strange!
Lots of people here are assuming for some reason she's coming in as Christine, but what if it's a situation like some alumni are coming to perform in a special finale? Occam's razor and all.

The article posted by adamgreer states "[Sandra Joseph] Returning to her signature role as Christine in The Phantom Of The Opera"; that's the source of the speculation.
That said, your point about the finale is interesting. I'm told that it's going to be big, and since all the mystery is about the role of Christine, perhaps they're reversing the 25th concept (four former Phantoms in the finale) and there will be four former Christines performing this time.
Hm. I already have a hard time reading Onstage Blog because of their poor editing, so I guess I either missed it or put it out of my head.

It's about Sandra's book.
I assume the writer was just bad and meant "getting back to" instead of returning or meant that she was thinking about it again. She had to be in her late thirties when she last played Christine over ten years ago. She's not coming back.

Well, that's a let-down.

I've been following Katie since the beginning of her tour run and I thought that was surprising. I knew something was up with her since she wasn't on social media much in recent weeks.Maybe Katie will eventually replace Ali/Kaley/Elizabeth eventually. Elizabeth has been in the show for 10+ years and I can't picture her missing the anniversary at all.

I think a friend of mine said Elizabeth is out of town for a couple weeks. Katie Travis must be covering while she's gone.
I have a rear mezz ticket for the 30th show on 1/24 at 6:30. I'm giving it away because I got a front mezz seat.
I'm staying at the Crowne Plaza because I'm also going to Bway Con. If you want the ticket (no charge) PM me and we can arrange to meet, or I can email you the PDF to print.

Telecharge will give you a refund if you ask. I had rear mezz too and upgraded to front mezz. I’ll also be going to BroadwayCon, but won’t be staying at the Crowne Plaza.
There is no doubt that Ali Ewoldt will be the 30th anniversary Christine. She mentioned what an honor it was on her current vlog at Broadway.com. Kaley was in the most recent vlog as well.

hi!!are you still offering your ticket for tonight's show?
Was anyone there last night? They live streamed the curtain call singing of Phantom of the Opera and the speeches, which was really cool. I got in about halfway, so didn't see the entire thing but it didn't appear that they did a multiple Phantoms type of thing.
The special light show they did on the Empire State Building was stunning! It was timed to Phantom of the Opera music playing at the Rainbow Room at the after party.

I wonder what everybody thought of Sarah Brightman? It was a thrill to see her back on the Majestic stage. I wonder if that was her first time back in that theater since the 80's? For most of the song, her voice sounded lush and beautiful. I just wish she wouldn't have tried to go all the way to the end.
I enjoyed seeing Cam Mac and ALW joking around and have a banter--you could see how they have an ease between each other but it was also clearly evident that they would snap on each other in a second lol. And Harold Prince is turning 90! Wow.
Really wish I could have been there. Not sure if there are any more anniversaries/milestones at the Majestic that will bring out Bright, Cam Mac, ALW and Prince like that. 35th? Doubtful. 13,000? Nah. 40th? Sure, but who knows who will still be around. But then again I'm sure nobody in 1988 thought that they would be back 30 years later.

Sarah was indeed present at the 25th anniversary.

I thought she sounded great, but I don’t think the live stream did it any justice, since it was unable to duplicate the acoustics in the theatre. The whole song, including Sarah’s final note, sounded so much better live. I was really impressed.
For anyone who missed the live stream, it’s still available to replay here:

Also, everyone at the theatre got a free souvenir program and complimentary champagne, which I thought was really nice.

Well that's good to hear that Sarah sounded great live. I love her and I hoped she got a great reception. Was anyone at both the 25th and the 30th? Seems like the 30th had quite a bit more going on.

I have video from my cell phone of Sarah's performance, and if you want to PM me your email address, I can send it to you. It's from the rear mezzanine, so it's pretty far away, but it gives a better idea of the vibe in the theatre. When she came out on stage, the audience went wild.
I had a spectacular time last night. A very high class evening at the theatre. Was hoping Michael Crawford would be there, but the school of rock kids, hal prince, sarah brightman , and andrew lloyd webber were an absolutely flooring surprise. Beyond brilliant performances by Ali Ewoldt and Rodney Ingram (per usual). And my oh my, that Peter Joback is a m a z i n g. Really glad to see they went back to a eerie voiced and acting oriented phantom rather than what they have had for many as of late with sweeping baritones. Loved it!

I was at both. I liked that this was more unique of a celebration- the 25th felt like it was just copying the RAH performance. It was also very different from London's 30th, so I really appreciated it. The energy was fantastic last night and I had a wonderful time. Dare I say I enjoyed Sarah's voice more now than I do on the original recording? She was awesome.
I was hesitant about Joback, since I had only heard audios of him and wasn't totally impressed during the 4 Phantoms after the RAH, but I think it was because he was singing next to JOJ, one of my favorites. His acting was superb and I think he's improved vocally, so he blew me away. I was FLOORED by how much I enjoyed his performance in particular, he had such a great physicality and nuanced interpretation.
I will have to see it again if I like it as much on a normal night, but dang was I impressed. I also think my general mood was lifted by a phantom I enjoyed, having been subjected to Barbour for the last few times I've attended. I just didn't love his performance, so having an eerie, well acted phantom was amazing.
