I'm there.
^So am I.
I've already had an orgasm just hearing this news.
This is still happening? I was really hoping Hoffman would drop out of it so I wouldn't have to suffer through another one of his performances.
WHEN DO TICKETS GO ON SALE.
Hubba Hubba
Andrew Garfield is the most promising young actor of his generation. He should have been Oscar nominated last year for NEVER LET ME GO. If he was cast as Othello, I'd go. And we all know that Linda Emond is going to be amazing and Tony-worthy. I'm hoping Hoffman pulls it off--I think he can.
Garfield's involvement would really get me into that theatre. He's a wonderful actor- and definitely was robbed of an Oscar nomination last year for The Social Network.
A little embarrassing to see Broadway World run this headline with "Linda Edmond". They surely mean "Linda Emond", no?
I may be in the minority but Garfield's American accent was incredibly annoying in The Social Network, which at times ironically sounded like Phillip Seymour Hoffman (and Canadian Hayden Christensen). I am hoping he worked it out since doing The Amazing Spiderman.
I hadn't thought it possible to be more excited about this revival.
Well, they could add a nude scene.
I'm sorry, AC. I know you're a respected poster around here and everything and you're a "Legend," while I'm only a lowly "Star" (ohh! ohhhh! like it even matters... ugh!) but let me be clear about what you're actually suggesting here -- something that is NOT in Miller's original text and something that the Miller estate has CLEARLY not signed off on. It's bad enough that Phllllip Seymore Hoffman is FAR too young to be playing Willie Loman and that Andrew Garfield isn't even the right ETHNICITY, but the suggestion of -- what? -- some kind of dad/son "relationship" (that's what we have to call it these days by law, right??) between the two of them onstage would somehow IMPROVE things?
I weep for the future.
In that case my plan for Willy to sing "It Ain't Necessarily So" before killing himself needs to be scrapped.
I, for one, hope that there will be more backstory for the characters.
Linda Loman has never been a full-blooded character, so let's work on that.
Uncle Ben sings, "My Taint's Necessarily Sewn (But Full of Diamonds, Willy)."
Wait. This scrawny little dude is suppose to be the "super jock" Biff? Yeah right.
I dunno. He looks pretty athletic to me. Biff's a quarterback, not a defensive lineman. He's not supposed to be The Incredible Hulk.
I think he's definitely got the body of a HS quarterback.
And who knows? He could put on another 15 to 20 pounds of muscle by next spring, after "Spiderman" has wrapped and he doesn't have to be so lithe. Either way, it seems like a great fit to me.
Based purely on his performance in "The Social Network," I bet he'll be a good Biff. But since the Lomans are being played by actors who are all a decade too young for their parts, I'm really starting to think that they should just change characters' ages in the script for this production. It is explicitly stated onstage that Willy is 63 and Biff is 34. I vote for them to just make the characters younger by five years or so. It wouldn't make that much of a difference and it will be less distracting. I mean, come on, they changed the line about Willy being called an "elephant" to being called a "shrimp" for Dustin Hoffman. Just sayin'.
I'm there if this happens, for sure. I agree with Kad. He was absolutely robbed of an Academy Award nomination. Hoping this is true.
How wonderful. Garfield is a white hot young actor about to play the lead role in one of the most successful movie franchises in history next summer. The fact that he's chosen to come to Broadway for several months is a smart and surprising career planning move for the future.
The only bad news is that I assume the show will have to close before the 4th of July.
The average limited run is about 12-16 weeks, right? Depending when previews start, it could perhaps run into the summer.
Spider-Man comes out July 3rd. The press release says the production will open in March. Presumably it will be one of those shows that closes on or right after the Tonys. Hopefully not.
