Another highly acclaimed magician is giving Broadway a try.
2018 “America’s Got Talent” quarterfinalist Rob Lake brings his bag of tricks to the Broadhurst Theatre starting tomorrow evening (October 28) — and he won’t be doing it alone, as he brings along The Muppets to make their long-awaited New York stage debut. An Oklahoma native and lifelong theater kid, Lake has performed in over 60 countries around the world, and his illusions have been seen widely on screen and stage. Lake, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and the gang gear up for an official opening on November 6; the 12-week limited holiday run concludes on January 18.
“A powerhouse of magical innovation, Rob Lake raises the curtain (and a few people) on the most magnificent stage of all — Broadway! One of the world’s most celebrated illusionists brings his signature brand of mind-blowing magic and awe-inspiring storytelling to New York City for a strictly limited engagement and with very special guests, The Muppets!”
Who’s going?

cant wait to find out the muppets are only in the last 5 minutes or whatever
Has this arrived dead. Doesn’t seem to be any buzz. But let’s hope the muppets have a staring role.
They need Fozzie Bear. Come on
Rob’s website says his show is 90 minutes with no intermission.
GINGER TWINSIES auteur Kevin Zak is credited as a script consultant.
The following Muppets are credited on the show’s Playbill Vault page:
(Missed opportunity for the show to close the Broadhurst’s right boxes and reserve them for Statler and Waldorf, methinks.)
Hopefully this surprises, but it’s so strange to build a show like this- with the Muppets, no less- around somebody with such little name recognition.

Expecting sales to pick up after reviews and word gets out a bit more for holidays and families. Especially with slim Broadway offerings.
Rob Lake is a fine stage magician.
Most everyone loves the Muppets.
I'm not sure why they're sharing a stage on Broadway, but here we are.
I was hoping to enter the rush lottery for it but couldn’t find any at telecharge.
I ended up just getting a $40 mezz ticket at the box office. I love the Muppets and am curious if this is more a magic show or a holiday show or a muppet show? I'm intrigued.
I read an interview somewhere with him where he said this is not a Muppet show. Sounds like they just make small "guest" appearances, if I remember correctly.

$49 digital and in-person rush and $39 lottery starting soon.
Looking forward to hearing reports from this evening, everyone!
I like magic so I had a good enough time tonight. The Muppets are present *MAYBE* 10 minutes of the 90 min run time - It might be a little less. They don’t even get a “curtain call” which really should be changed to include them, somehow.
Some pretty cool magic tricks and even the ones you’ve seen a bunch before maybe on TV, some of them in person is still really cool to see.
If you’re in the orchestra, you really do have a good chance of participating in a lot of what’s done since the audience plays a significant part in what he does. But if you’re worried about being called on, don’t worry. Everyone has a choice to participate and you won’t be called on if you don’t want to be. But yeah I had a good enough time tonight. Rob is very charming and made the 90 mins fly by. Heads up though this show started EXACTLY at 7pm. No wiggle room at all, so get there on time.

How are The Muppets presented? Are they live or on video?
They’re live. There is one muppet first seen on video but then is live.
Awesome you were there too Jordan! From what I recall, the show stopped twice due to tech. The magic is topnotch and some of the tricks I have seen live on Broadway before (i.e. El Mago Pop, Derren Brown, The Illusionists.) I wish the magic and Muppets were integrated more to an actual story but then again this is the first preview so they have time to make adjustments/changes.
There is a lot of audience participation and even a segment where he picks a child from the audience. Very family friendly show. Try to sit in the orchestra if you want to get picked to be onstage. Sit in the mezzanine if you don't want to get selected.
This is not really a holiday show so don't expect anything winter/christmas/holiday vibes, etc. The past few weeks on Instagram I had seen ads for the show stating it's a holiday show but I wouldn't consider it as one.
I just wish the Muppets were part of the curtain call especially since it's technically their Broadway debut.
I'd see this show again after opening to see how it's finalized.
Yeah, the show stopped 3 times for technical difficulty - as well an initially unoperative camera that eventually showed close-up hand magic via a microphone stand line attachment.
The show is nice - and Rob is one of the more chill and easy going magicians - albeit some of the traditional big magician hand raising and lowering movements. There are a few plants - you'll know 'em - and they probably rotate a bit.
Some repetition in tricks you've seen before (woman cut in half) & from AMAZE over at New World stages (levitation, hanging locked box etc). We too wish there was more muppet integration into the show. They felt slid in-between a few segments rather than smartly involved. Some of the jokes/book are a little basic if not groan worthy in places trying to relate the show to Broadway (likely from Ginger Twinsies writer-ish Kevin Zaks). More muppet moments coming, including the curtain call. It's definitely in previews. No holiday theme - check it out in a few weeks for best rehearsed version.
It's a little slow but the pace will get better. Upstage of the curtain was quite loud tonight with crew trying to figure it out.
It's much better than Lord Nil (that was awful). It's a Broadway sized version of AMAZE (plus muppet bits - there could be more) but less cheesy and smaller scaled than El Mago Pop. But not as exciting as Asi Wind's smaller, stealth and intimate show downtown.
People are going to be disappointed to only see the Muppets for less than ten minutes.
Yeah.... will admit the Muppets appearances got a huge applause from the audience (who most likely are Muppets fans such as myself.) I was hoping for more Muppets stage time too and at the very least give them and their puppeteers a few seconds of curtain call time at the end.
They should have Sam the Eagle burst through the door and say “you are all weirdos”
The muppets getting less than 10 minutes in their Broadway debut is another reason why I hate The Disney Corporation. Eat **** Bob Iger I hope you step on legos
