I thought they just had to have been in the show during the normal voting period for the Tonys. In which case, Hilty would still be here.
I still say she won't get it.
If Chenoweth can't win a TONY with the role...no one can.
I love Barrett with all my heart and soul, and have so for quite a few years.
But the role itself is not TONY worthy to be honest. And that's coming from someone who is an avid fan of AVENUE Q.
Surely it will be Eileen Atkins.
Of course the definition of the award is still a bit fuzzy, but I sincerely doubt you are going to see the 5th replacement Glinda or the 18th replacement Phantom winning this.
I am under the impression that this is an award that will awarded to performers like Reba McEntire in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, Richard Burton in EQUUS and Pearl Bailey in DOLLY - performers who's presence and reviews seemed to be at least the equal of their predecessors.
Eileen Atkins is really the only performer this season who merits that kind of consideration.
And I think its worth noting again that the Tony committee has said they will only award this honor when they believe someone is truly deserving - its not necessarily going to be given every season.

Agreed, Michael.
Ah, but Megan isn't up against Idina! If Idina hadn't been nominated, just Kristin, don't you think she would have won?
No, I think Tonya Pinkins would have won.
Chenoweth is a one trick pony.
If it doesn't go to Atkins, I hope it goes to Fierstein.
Eileen Atkins??
I thought you had to be with the show 6 months. Is that cutting it close? What day did she officially start I can't remember.
But surely they'll just hand it over to Audra McDonald whether she is there or not because she's a lock!
I think you just have to be contracted for 6 months.
The Tony committee didn't have any respect for WICKED when it was first eligible. They're certainly not going to single it out now, and rightfully so.
Cheno most likely would have won..had they deigned to try for the nom in the Supporting category rather than the Lead. Yes, Galinda/Glinda is more of a lead..however it really IS Elphaba's show.

NJRae - I personally think that Kristin should have won the tony. Whether or not Idina was nominated it doesn't matter. Kristin totally stole the show, in my opinion.

Before she was announced for Chorus Line, I would have said that the award was basically the Charlotte d'Amboise award.
If Shoshana Bean goes anywhere NEAR this award, I will have a hissy fit of biblical proportions.
^--- Once again Kitzy.
Again, it's because I'm a woman of unmitigated brilliance. I can't help it if I'm fabulous
I would be surprised to see anyone other than Eileen Atkins even enter into the equation. She is an actress of great stature, loved and respected by everyone, who filled some pretty big shoes.
That's not to say that people like Megan Hilty, Barrett Foa, and Aaron Lazar aren't giving great performances on par with their predecessors, but they aren't forces of nature either, and that's what this award is ostensibly about. Or it's about enticing big names to do Broadway shows. I'm not sure which yet.

howard mcgillin or sandraa joseph.....
I think it should be Simon Russell Beale.
I think that the problime with Charlotte d'Amboise is that she never really does it for 6 months at a time. She just kinda is treated like **** and throne in when they have nobody else. Who do you think the new Charlotte d'Amboise will be when she is in A Chorus Line?
Actually Charlotte just did it six months recently.
Summer of 2004 she came back in August after Paige Davis, and I believe she stayed through March - when she left to do Charity in Boston and Broadway previews. She did take a several week vacation from Roxie, but it wasn't a full departure. So that is about six months.
Usually with Roxie, Charlotte has always been their regular, and then they will have stunt Roxies. But now when they aren't stunting Roxie I'm sure they'll use Michelle DeJean, Bryn Dowling, or Michelle Poterff. Michelle DeJean was an ensemble member, and they now she is a full time Roxie on tour, and does it on Broadway. So I imagine now that Charlotte is gone, Bryn and Michelle P have a chance of being bumped up like DeJean.

AMEN.
I would assume that since we still do not know the exact rules, well at least how the apply.. it is a lil early to start naming names. I have hopes, but this catagory confuses the heck out of me.
