They have over 2.5 weeks to go until first preview. They'll be doing multiple "dress runs" for "friends and family" over the last few days of tech.
One cast member mentions that they love horror movies and haunted houses, and suddenly Masquerade is a haunted house? Y’all love to run to the farthest extremes.
It’s not going to be a haunted house. It’s immersive theatre, so of course it’s going to be more intense than sitting in a stationary seat. The story is, for all intents and purposes, a ghost story of sorts, so it makes sense. But I think anyone anticipating jump scares or anything like that can probably rest easy. If you could handle Sleep No More, my gut says you’ll be able to handle Masquerade.

Good for all y'all who eat upthis sheet, but I got 0% FOMO"
It’s not going to be a haunted house. You may not remember but Diane Paulus was the director of The Donkey Show, a brilliant interactive disco version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream that ran for years. It was interactive before interactive was a thing. She will know how to direct this Phantom.

Not so far. I visited the site on 7/10/25; all windows were still papered-over and there were security cameras over the doors. The doors were not locked, and workers continually went in and out. Brief glimpses inside when the doors were opening/closing did not suggest that work was anywhere near completion. I also crossed the street and went up to the fifth floor windows of Nordstroms, from which you can see the rooftop across the street. There was nothing up there except two folding ladders and typical rooftop HVAC equipment. It's difficult for me to imagine this opening in two weeks.

If this is anything like an immersive experience i attended, that means it looks ordinary/like nothing special from the outside, and everything else is inside and you're in the world once you really step inside and get to where the action is happening. It doesn't bring you into the world right from the moment you step into the building. There's a build up. I highly doubt they'd just provide a free look to anyone passing by. The building is big. They have other things planned.
To the observation about work being unfinished, it’s worth noting that even SNM appeared unfinished or rough from the outside. The only visible area to passersby was the entryway, which featured dusty curtains, chipped black paint, and a sticky floor with the lights on. None of the designed interior spaces are visible from the street, and the same will be true for Masquerade. While the initial plans showed an outdoor playing space on the roof, that element may have changed, might be quick to install closer to opening, or simply isn’t visible from Nordstrom.

I did not say that they were "providing a free look to anyone passing by", and they did not.
This is being designed to "bring you into the world right from the moment you step into the building". The architecture of the building factored into the site selection; the facade will not look "ordinary/like nothing special". The rooftop is said to be part of the experience (presumably for the "All I Ask of You" and "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again/Wandering Child" scenes), and reports appeared online yesterday indicating that neighbors were able to see the Phantom, Christine, and Raoul rehearsing on the roof.
