I think I recognize Hugh Panaro and Telly Leung in that photo but even then I can’t be certain. And the rest, I have no idea. Can anyone name anyone else in the photo?
"

Definitely looks like Hugh Panaro and Telly Leung in the back, but most of the rest of them look like children.

Me. I've never loved the show (though I thought the original Prince staging was a wonder). I think this sounds like it could be a fun night. And $200? I did an actual titty-shake dance when I got Ragtime tickets for $198 which I thought was such a bargain. So bring it on.

Hugh Panaro and Eryn LeCroy appear to be the only Phantom Broadway alumni, which is interesting, because I know of a few from the final (April 2023) company who auditioned and were not selected.

My first thought was that Hugh would be the Phantom, but then I was thinking that Eryn has likely aged out of Christine at this point and perhaps will be playing Giry, so now I'm wondering if Hugh might actually be one of the managers (he's now 61).

Well, my low key excitement turned into real excitement. This isn’t amateur hour but the real deal!!

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

I don't know why anyone would doubt that ALW would put on a good show. I've even seen the non-replica productions of POTO and they were awesome.

Well I just sat through one of the worst productions of JCS in Melbourne Australia, I was yelled at, screeched, by a cast that forgot lyrics are good when you sing them separately. Not one single word without a breath. Yes this was a professional production. So Webber does allow crap to be produce.

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Paulis and Phantom!?!?

Talk about a mismatch

Instead of a chandelier falling she'll have 3 different casts in four different rooms looking for a light switch!

No matter what the end product, I'm glad NYC is getting a brand new (risky) production, as opposed to a cheaper copy of the original (looking at you London).

You can bet on New York getting that cheap copy sooner or later, as CamMack is clearly following his Les Miz playbook of replacing the original and trotting out the new version to the rest of the world. This time, he gets to use such bizarre marketing phrases like "it's the brilliant original--better than ever!"   Hmmmm.  I'm sure the new tour will be on the road for a year or two and then get dumped on Broadway with same nonsense marketing, and somehow being directed by both Seth and Prince.

Phantom to me has always been inextricably linked with Maria Bjornson and Harold Prince, so I am still deeply saddened by the end of its run. However, I will be on my computer Monday morning trying to get tickets for this new Phantom thing. This board has already dismissed it as overpriced and pointless, but I am going to give it a fair shot. Heck, I need something to bring me back to New York these days.

I would not expect Phantom to be revived on Broadway for at least 10 years (though maybe that would be covered by the 'sooner or later').

If this is a hit and becomes a kind of 'sleep no more', there is no chance of a revival happening at the same time. If this is a complete and utter flop it will feed into a narrative that NYC is done with Phantom for a while.

This PR rollout is a damn mess. The cast was put on the website this morning before the press release. They want you to be fancy enough for a dress code, but not so dressy to allow you to wear heels. They quietly amended their age policy on matinees and masks, because of the outrage.

i think it’s clear it feels as though this “revival” or “remix” is being ran by some unexperienced folks

also knowing which former cast members were auditioning and seeing which made the cut/newly cast…….. fascinating

Not apparently:

First Performance July 31st.
Tickets will go on sale June 30 at 10am ET

Teasing an announcement IS a strategy, albeit a rarely used one, and this is clearly all deliberate.

This thing is gonna look great. Scott Pask on sets, Emilio Sosa on costumes, Ben Stanton on lighting. Maybe the most exciting part: choreography by Gypsy Snider (who did the circus stuff for PIPPIN) and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.

I don't know how this is going to work or how the tracks are being split, but if Anna Zavelson isn't Christine I don't want it!*

*Dramatics, of course. But she would be lovely.

I’m sure she will be, they wouldn’t have her voice just to be Meg.
