my comment was editorial not a slam
But nothing could make me see this show again
The show was slumping at the BO
and if she keeps it runing
more Power to her

You disagree with me even if you don't disagree with me. You just like to pick on me. You said about my reviews that you always disagree with me about every show, and Im sure that we both of us like one or two shows. So I don't expect any nice comments from you, because you have a preconceived idea of me. Anyways, that was just a joke. No need to take that seriously, Im sure that there isn't a single show that is "good" to the entire world. Some people like a show, some others don't. It was a joke, got it?

I have seen THE COLOR PURPLE twice now - I paid the first time, and I was comped the second time.

I thought it lacked and butchered the original story, though I certainly enjoyed it. I never had a desire to go back until now - just to see what she's doing.

Sounds like she pulled it off and I expected her to be good. She got two times the normal rehearsal and preparation time so there was no excuse for her to not be 100% on it tonight.

I read in her MTV article that she thought it would be easy. For that reason alone I'm glad she's come to Broadway. Now she'll have more respect for something she appeared to have little to no understanding of, or interest in, until she was hired. Welcome to Broadway Fantasia. :)

Im not a performer, just a fan.

"She got two times the normal rehearsal and preparation time so there was no excuse for her to not be 100% on it tonight."

There is a difference though, she isn't coming in as "normal". She likely got more time because they came after her to do this role, it wasn't the other way around. What are they going to say to her, fantasia we want you and you have to start immediately? She'd never taken this role that she wasn't seeking if they didn't give her time to prepare. Also, billboards, commercials, print ads, all that stuff had to also be prepared, I don't think the "usual" performers have all that prepared before going on. I do think it is a bit different when a "star" or "stunt" is involved. They likely get more time so that there can can be a build up to the opening night. Plus, if you know anything about her role, you'd know that role she has is in almost the entire musical, which involves a lot more work then the "usual" performer.

There are many other lead roles in stage productions that have been stunt casted without the actor getting three months to prepare. They knew she needed a ton of work. If two months prep time is what Fantasia needed in order to pull it off I'm glad they gave it to her. It seems to have paid dividends.

Maybe that's why she thinks that The Color Purple is a good musical! LOL

"They knew she needed a ton of work."

Yeah, because there are a TON of lines to learn. Obviously those of you talking about the "work" have never seen the color purple. Why don't you go see it to see what's involved and perahps you'd be impressed that it only took 6 weeks.

Quote From the NY post:

"It also means learning a daunting amount of lines. (Unlike former "Idol" contestants Frenchie Davis and Diana DeGarmo, who've played smaller roles on Broadway, Fantasia's in nearly every scene.) "

"She's got a fraction of the education her fellow actors have, only a splash of the professional experience they all have, and hasn't had to wait half as long as them... a wee bit ironic? seemingly a tad "unfair"? yup."

Uh...welcome to the world of PERFORMANCE. It's not supposed to be FAIR. For every person who pays their dues as an actor for years before making a big break, there is someone who was discovered simply by singing in a talent show or walking down the street looking good at the right time or auditioning for a commercial to make some cash. It's as much about being in the right place at the right time as it is about training and persistance. Some people, like Fantasia, are fortunate enough to have a shorter road to fame, but you can't hold that against her. Either way, it is still because of her talent that she is where she is today.

gees, I never thought I'd be defending Fantasia so much...

Muscle- Nice way to misquote me. I said that on a thread where you posted your reviews and I said I disagree with all your reviews. Which is true!

I saw the show with the OBC and loved it. Funny. Moving. Dramatic. Good storytelling. Great music. Great characters. MUCH better than many shows I have seen recently. While not one of the best shows I have seen, it's a show that I do want to see again. I typically don't want to see shows more than once. But I do want to revisit CP, with or without Fantasia.

If Fantasia is as good as Hollywood and Broadway and the Music Industry says she is, then I expect she just needs a venue to prove it to audiences. COLOR PURPLE is it, acting wise. (Her Lifetime movie doesn't count, IMO). Don't forget, she was the frontrunner to be Effie in the DREAMGIRLS movie for a long time.

Virgo, the standard rehearsal time to put in a performer is 2 weeks from what I know (though there are obviously exceptions to this) and many "stunt casts" have only received that amount of time. If they don't cut it, they're out. Fantasia got much more than that. That's a fact. It makes sense though because she was asked to do the role without even an audition and no musical theatre experience (every Idol contestant that has been on Broadway so far, from what I know, has had prior musical theatre experience) if we are to believe the articles written about it, so they alloted her more time. I hope she did a good job tonight. She's certainly proven to be a draw at the office box office and we all know TCP has been suffering...

Muscle--I never knew you were funny. That makes me happy!!

Can't wait to see her do the show. I liked (not loved) the show. Fantasia is perfectly suited for the role. AI has certainly taught the kids to work hard. I imagine she will be wonderful.

They will not review her for a few weeks. Can't wait!

Good for her and the show. It deserves a continued life.

TomMonster - they won't review her for a few weeks? This is something you guess, assume, or know?

CapnHook, most replacements that are reviewed usually get a few days/weeks of "previews" to warm up to the role before the critics are invited. I guess we won't see any official Fantasia reviews till next week or a couple more weeks if the critics are even invited.

Yes - big name or star replacements don't get officially reviewed until several weeks after they begin. They are NEVER reviewed their first night, or even their first week.
