"A closing notice went up this week, but the producers are trying to keep it quiet. They’re praying ticket sales will pick up while they try to scrape together more cash to keep the show going through the holidays.
If not, the show folds Sunday."
LOL, WHAT?
For some reason I just got goosebumps reading about the moulin Rouge workshop. Like, I just got so excited about the idea of Karen Olivo, Aaron Tveit and Alex Timbers in the same room.
Looking at sales for HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS for this weekend, I'd say it's 99% likely it's closing on Sunday. How sad a show with a 6 week run during the holidays can't make money.

Jorge - I didn't even care too much for Moulin Rouge and I agree with you.

I mean, I hope it doesn't close at this merely because I have a ticket for it now...I'd rather see it than not. And we all know Reidel isn't right all that often.
And speaking of Butterfly, not that I'm exactly sure what the legalities are, but I thought way more time than less than a week had to be given before a show made their closing announcement...I recall two or three weeks out at least someone mentioned. I could be be wrong about the number, but less than a week?

Yeah, but wouldn't it have announced it by now if it were? And announcing it is required if I recall rightly.

Equity says a show may announce closing within a week at the start of a show week, which is typically on Tuesdays.

Ah ok. What that means for HthH, who knows, since it's not Equity at all.

Someone also posted in the Home for the Holidays thread this morning that they heard it was closing Sunday.
Why would anyone throw more money at this? I’d be more surprised if it didn’t close Sunday.
I am so excited for Karen! I can't believe it's been almost 10 years since she's been on Broadway. Hopefully she and Aaron really do move with the production.
A show can close whenever it wants; the issue is pay. The standard rule is 1 weeks notice (deemed given if before the 1st performance of the week (usually Tuesday for a standard schedule), but that only has to do with when the last pay check is. (And some people have other notice periods for that purpose, but that is the contractual minimum.

Agh! My gosh! I hope she continues with it! Can’t believe it’s been ten years since West Side Story.

Home for the Holidays does not have Equity performers??

Wüt? How? Why?
So Karen is attached to two Broadway bound productions? Chess (maybe) and Moulin Rouge! Nice to see her come back. She's a tremendous talent.
1. It IS equity.
2. When they ralk about posting the closing notice, they mean to those losing their jobs not to the public...the article clearly states that has been done.

I blatantly assumed HftH isn't Equity since it's a CONCERT in a Broadway VENUE, as has been mentioned a few times elsewhere (therefore it would assumedly be a different Union), with pop singers who I'm guessing aren't Equity. Peter and Evynne aren't, but if it is Equity, I'm willing to be set straight. WITHOUT shade please...
Still no announcement about it closing.
dramamama611-The article doesn't clearly state anything, it's just Reidel speculating about it closing on Sunday. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if he's right though.
It certainly isn't a given that Home is an Equity production; many special events on Broadway are not Equity. And who was the celebrity in an actual Equity Broadway show who famously never joined the union? Hugh Jackman? Tony Danza?
Actors Equity is a terrific idea, just sort of ... toothless in practice.

Wait, FOR REAL?? One of those two never actually joined Equity? I could almost understand why someone on a very "low" level of their career wouldn't join even if cast in a Broadway show (not that I agree with it, but I can understand why) but an actual CELEBRITY?? Wow...
No - I remember now! It was Antonio Banderas for Nine - joining Equity would do nothing for him, he was a star making a star salary, and had no need of the union. (And perhaps because it was Roundabout/nonprofit, it was permitted?)

The playbill has Actors' Equity listed as one of the unions represented on its last page.

Given the number of performances she missed during WSS, I was surprised she was hired for the lead role in a huge musical. I saw WSS twice and she was out both times; I remember reading at the time -- can't remember the source -- thatcher absences were such a serious issue at the time that the producers had considered firing her, but concluded to let it pass because she did, after all, win the Tony.

Wasn’t it because she broke her foot??
Home for the Holidays is indeed using an Equity production contract.
And you do not have to join Equity to work on an Equity contract. Dues will still be deducted and the producer will still contribute to the pooled benefits- unless, of course, you're in a right-to-work state (and soon we may all be!).
