On the heels of the film's monumental success at the box office -- coupled with the film's soundtrack earning critical acclaim -- it's only natural to wonder if a musical is in the cards.
Just ask Robbie.
"Trust me, this isn't the first ... this is not the first time we've thought of it, yeah," she tells ET. "It's so fun when you can turn everything into a big, crazy musical number. Everything is infinitely more fun."
Gerwig, the film's director, agreed.
"A lot," she says, piggybacking off Robbie's love for musicals. "I'm deeply [in] love [with] musicals. Also, America's performed in musicals!"
Gerwig added, "I really love musicals. I mean, nothing would make me happier. So, I would love a musical."
Ferrera, who played Mattel employee Gloria, said she feels like her character "has a number in her."
I saw “Barbie” recently for the first time and thought it was silly and meta, but exhaustingly so. Gosling was easily the best part of the whole thing.
That being said, I would love to see Greta direct a true movie musical.

I'd love to see her direct a film of the gender-flipped Company revival. Her husband already considered making a Company movie with Adam Driver before that idea became "Marriage Story"
I actually think a musical could be a big improvement from the film. I felt the film's storyline was a little too simplistic an heavy-handed. But if accompanied but a great score and big dance numbers, I think it would sort of balance the whole thing out.

I rather see her do Hello Dolly but with Bette Midler as Dolly
I’d love for her to use her incredible blank-check opportunity to make a first rate film of Night Music or Follies, since she’s clearly a Sondheim mega fan

I'm a bit of the same mind. I thought the first 40 minutes were brilliant and then it became arch and "knowing" in a way that got grating. A musical seems inevitable. I wonder if they'll make Mark Ronson the official composer.
One of the ironies of the recent efforts to hide that new movies are musicals is that the biggest hit of the year is a de facto musical that probably would have been better as a full-blown musical anyway.
It seems like a perfectly good fit as a Broadway musical.
Forgive me, but I immediately thought of the Simpsons episode where Mr. Smithers stars in the musical production of Malibu Stacy (The Simpsons version of Barbie). Lol
