I still can’t believe producers didn’t secure the rights to the song prior to mounting the production. Its one thing for a Mean Girls not to use Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, and Legally Blonde not to use Perfect Day, but Pretty Woman is literally gets its title from the song, or at least thats what 90% of the general public thinks. At this point we’ve also had multiple screen to stage adaptations with iconic musical moments and/or songs audiences find synonymous with the film be used successfully in the stage adaptation. Rocky used both Eye of the Tiger and Gonna Fly Now, seamlessly in its score, Ghost might of used a little too much Unchained Melody, but Spongebob used Best Day Ever, and School of Rock used its title song. I will exclude Beetlejuice from the argument as it opened after Pretty Woman, but this is one of the biggest producing blunders in recent memory.
