My friend took pictures with her phone. I mean, I am sure they are sweet girls and I was impressed with the details on their costumes, but according to cast members, they were just there on Friday, dressed the same way and they apparently expect special treatment from the cast for doing it. It's one thing to dress up as fun for yourself, but don't dress up to get attention from the cast. You will end up with negative attention and no one wants that.

Well, it could be worse.

They could be going around with wedding veils on their heads and forcing cast members to take mock wedding photos with them.

It's happened, believe me.

I say, who the heck cares. They are enjoying themselves. They are not hurting anybody. And if they are teenagers, they will one day grow out of this (hopefully). But even if they don't...who cares.

I didn't attened the performance that these girls went to, and I refuse to say which production or performance this happened at, but it happened at a show that opened last season and has a VERY dedicated fan base, (yes, this is a total blind item, but who cares), I heard audience members who paid full price complaining during intermission to ushers and management about the fans in attendance and how, while they appreciated their enthusiasm for theatre, the show, and Broadway, they found the behavior to be distracting to the point that they were not able to enjoy the performance and felt that it was HIGHLY inappropriate. And yes, the behavior was INCREDIBLY distracting.

You're talking about those people with the giant foam fingers who were at every single performance of "Faith Healer," right?

AM I not allowed to bring giant foam fingers to Broadway shows and wave them? Damn, I thought that was a great way to show my appreciation.

Well, I cannot positively state the type of attention they received and like I said, I think they are probably nice people who are just a little overexcited. To most, it's a bit over the top. But, to each his own. It isn't like they are hurting anyone...unless one of the girls intended to strangle a cast member with the giant pink bow in her hair :)

I should probably also clarify that the "mock wedding picture" and "forcing cast members to take pictures" is someone trying to insult me. At Kevin Kern's last show of Altar Boyz, my friend brought her wedding veil in reference to a joke. It was Kevin's idea to take a "wedding picture" with me as the fifteen people who were there can attest to or you could just ask him. No one forced him. It was a funny joke and was over in a second. I was even a little embarassed, but I'm not ashamed of it. I chalk it up to the same silly pictures people take, like having cast members take sign pictures or other funny poses. If you do it once, it's funny. If you do it on a continual basis, it's scary.

Although maybe I should go around taking wedding pictures in a veil with a big foam finger....that might be hot.

I'm just going to say that I was sitting next to this...incident Friday night. And I will also say that I'm not against getting a little rowdy at Wedding Singer, one of my favorite "fun" shows.

And I'm all for having a good time but... it was miserable. Loud cheering at the end of songs? GREAT! Laughing, clapping? GREAT! Screaming at a dog whistle pitch while the cast is in the middle of a number and yelling out their names to try to get their attention? Not so great.

I may never hear out of my right ear again and it was like seeing two "Lindas" during "Let Me Come Home" since the one dressed as Linda next to me had to use our seat space to get the "boomerang" hand motions done correctly. Good thing she knew the scene so well because she never once looked at the stage, because that would have required her not to headbang in the right direction. They were giving their own performance, constantly hooting at the cast and just HOPING the cast would appreciate their performance.

The problem? It's the CAST who is supposed to be doing a performance and you're supposed to watch them, not the other way around.

I've paid to see Felicia Finley do this, not a 15 year old dressed like a hooker and shrieking in my ear.

I've seen LOTS of rowdy audiences at wedding singer, but those girls were the ONLY ones who effectively managed to ruin the experience for everyone around them. And half the cast too, the looks on their faces onstage... they got "noticed" alright, just maybe not in the "wow isn't that great" way...

Now what would you say if today I started over? Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover And I'll pretend like everything is already alright And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight

No one behaves in the theater anymore. The talking, constant wrapper noise, etc., is out of control.

The other night I was at LITTLE DOG LAUGHED and at the end of Ari Graynor's first monologue, an audience member yelled "GO ARS!!!!"

Wow, that sucks, Lea. This is why I keep saying I am scared to see what occurs at the last show. I really hope the cast gets a chance to enjoy and take in their final performance, rather than get yelled at by rowdy audience members.

Lea, it was nice meeting you on Saturday even though I didn't get to talk to you much. Same with you, carymetorent!

Lea, where you at the stage door Sat matinee? Carymetorent, I think you were- right?

I would love to know what happens at the last performance! I'll be on a cruise so a PM would be nice...hint, hint! re: SCARY Wedding Singer fan sighting!

These girls ARE scary. Were they just dressed up it wouldn't be too bad, but as Lea said, they were downright obnoxious and disruptive. It wasn't so bad on Sunday, I think because a few people actually warned the ushers beforehand and asked them to please try and quiet them down. Their piercing shrieking was at least kept to appropriate moments for the most part.

I think the most apt description I heard all night was "They sound like kittens... being drowned..."

l love you without knowing how... or when... or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride.
I love you because I know no other way than this.

These girls have been repeatedly approached by ushers and crew, I believe (if they are the ones I've heard the stories about). Doing a couple of the hand movements in your seat, or clapping, is a typical fanatic thing to do and isn't dangerous to the actors. However, what they are doing is extremely dangerous. The actors do a great deal of movement and God forbid they lose their footing due to that... tragedy... in the front row - it could be quite a mess.

Personally, if I were the usher, they would have been removed from the theater.

I'm torn on the issue. On one hand I want to agree that they are just teenagers, and as long as it is harmless, let them be. But on the other hand, it makes a broadway show look more like a circus than it already is. One teen sees another do it, so they do it, because that is obviously how you express how much you love the show. Then you have a whole crowd doing it, and it will scare off many adults from these sorts of shows, and they are the ones paying full price most of the time. A 5 year old dressing like Belle to Beauty & the Beast is one thing, a 15 year old dressing like a character to Wedding Singer is another.

And no matter how you dress, while in the theater no one should be singing (mouthing along is fine), dancing, or cat calling. That is plain rude to the actors they love so much.

I'm glad that my only Wedding Singer experiences have been pleasant ones. But I can only imagine the behavior is going to worsen as it gets closer and closer to the closing show.

In a way, I'm glad I'm not going to closing show- that is going to be all the crazies inside one enclosed space! Scary :P

But I sure hope most of the crazies wont be there on that Friday before, because I'm not going to let them ruin my performance!

Personally, again, I think there is a line between nice, supportive fan, and crazy, obnoxious. These girls who dressed up and screamed seem like they leaped across that line with flying colors...
