Previews begin Monday evening, 11/25, for SING STREET down at NYTW. Assuming there may be an invited final run thru tomorrow?

Really bought into the hype on this one. Hopefully it turns out better than The Wrong Man!

I don’t want to say much but it’s great. You won’t be disappointed.

can sweet little music movies just stay sweet little music movies anymore?
It’s an intimate Irish lad kinda tale with amazing music. It doesn’t NEED to be exploited on a broadway stage.
Also “having music in it” DOESN’T AUTOMATICALLY MAKE SOMETHING A MUSICAL

It was a little under 2.5 hours.
Seeing first preview tonight and then catching it again after it opens, will report back for both. Eager for this one!

I was at dress rehearsal last night and the show is excellent! There's lots of music in it and it IS a musical. If you've seen the movie, you know the main plot and I really like the changes they've made - without spoilers - they've added depth to the characters. The music if fun and catchy and the fact that these young actors are playing all the instruments live makes it even more impressive.
Going back in a few weeks and am excited to see what changes will be made. For those that grabbed tickets already, you picked a good one :)
Also, running time is right around 2hrs. I didn't clock the exact start time, but it was just about 6:30p. We were at intermission by 7:22p. Show ended at 8:38pm.

Lmk if they sell the poster. Usually it is available at the BO for under $10. Excited to see this in two weeks!!!

Aren’t we passed being entertained by the actor/musician concept?

Aren't we past the idea of voicing opinions before actually seeing the production and if the concept works?

My comment wasn’t about this show in particular just the idea of “wow they play their own instruments AND sing?!” We’ve seen it. It was fun. Let’s move on.

Are you suggesting that productions stop doing this? Or just that we shouldn’t act like it’s still innovative?

Well then why would you post it on this particular thread? If you're not into the concept -- don't see the show. See how easy it is?
Carmen, does this show have original music, or is it like Once, which used the music from the movie?

Even though this concept has certainly been around the block for the past decade or so, I have yet to get tired of it and I think it consistently makes for an exciting evening of theater (unless it's John Doyle)

I’d rather see actors act and sing instead of lugging a trombone around.
And I have no plans to see the show! But love the design team and wish the show well! Just having a convo, so, you know, y’all can chill.
Kids playing instruments - so 13 and School or Rock...
Ok, but to Sing Street - I've seen the movie. I thought it was "cute" but "meh" - so not excited about a stage presentation, but you never know. In any event, I am curious about how they will do the music video montage sequences. But, it's not novel for kids to play instruments - but it's essential to the plot.
